3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big thanks to my good friend Steve Klenk for this one, and what a gorgeous bottle this is, with an embossed ghost behind orange letters and pumpkin. Pours turbid pumpkin colored with off-white head. Nose is bready caramel malt, bourbon, pumpkin puree, cacao. Tastes of bourbon, pumpkin, big hops, cacao, vanilla. Rich, smooth, and complex palate, with bourbon up front, the pumpkin as a solid secondary taste, and finishing vanilla, cacao, and squash. This is as unique a pumpkin beer as I have ever quaffed, and I’m damned glad to have a friend like Steve to share it with me. Take a small bite of pumpkin pie, add a Hershey’s Kiss, then without swallowing take a big hit of Cognac, and you have this beer, and it tastes great.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Light oak/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice barrel aged imperial pumpkin ale style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Canal’s Rio Grande. Poured a muddy light brown under a larger foamy light beige head. Aroma is solid, notes of light chocolate, bourbon, pumpkin pie, vanilla ice cream. Flavor of pumpkin skin, light pie spice, bourbon soaked oak, vanilla beans and pie crust. Medium body with average carbonation a dry finish with a slight touch of heat. Solid beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Actually taste more like gourd than many pumpkin beers. Pours dark amber with good head and lacing light sweet finish and a hint of clove. Some barley. Small sample at whole foods.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mild bourbon and oak nose. Cloudy copper, thick sudsy tan head. Bourbon flavor. Medium body, but a little on the thin side. Maybe the barrel was new, but the bourbon dominates any pumpkin or cocoa notes that might have been there. Great beer if you like bourbon, was hoping for more nuance.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours brown/black with little tan head. Aroma is earthy, slight pumpkin spice, maybe some cocoa. Taste is not distinctly spicy, pumpkin or chocolate. It’s just "there". Similar to the mouthfeel of an oatmeal stout but slightly sweeter. Nothing really stands out here. I was a bit disappointed.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ Blue Mountain. Orangey with a decent head that looks yellowed and lots of lacing. I actually get a citric aroma with a squashy under tone and some woody sweetness. Definitely get the bourbon/cocoa in the flavor. A bit spicy, sweet, but balanced with some dryness.

Bomber. Overall pretty good pumpkin beer with medium spice and a little hint of chocolate. Not overpowering like many and the bourbon barrel adds good flavors

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at 80/20 burger bar. Pours a hazy amber light brown color with a thin rim of light tan head. Aroma is mild pumpkin spice, vanilla, oak. Flavor about the same, but disappears quickly into the finish. Okay beer overall, but by no means an imperial stout.
