Malty. Caramel. Herbal. Smooth and silky, really well balanced. Light caramel notes, light body, lingering traces of bitterness, in a good way. Super easy to drink, better than I remember from the bottle version.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into pint glass, best before 6/2014 stamped on the cork. Pours lightly cloudy reddish copper color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts the whole glass. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a lot of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, pear, raisin, apple, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, floral, grass, light pine, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and fruity ester notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, biscuit, pear, apple, pepper, floral, pine, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, biscuit, light fruits, floral, pepper, light pine, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance of malt, hop, and fruity ester flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a moderately creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent ESB style. All around great balance and complexity of malt, yeast, and hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Fresh (BB 4/2014) can from Save On. Deep garnet reddish brown with lasting flat head. Caramel and spicy bready aroma. Toasty bready caramel malts mild fruit dry earthy herbal lingering bitterness. Subdued and fine carbo. Medium body. Lovely soft mouthfeel. Excellent for the style, which I haven’t had in a while, been so driven to IPAs. Extra points for demanding that I look at the date code on the bottom.

22oz poured into a coffee mug (the best I could I’m out of town). Looked to be dark brown. Aromas of sweet malt. Little hops compared to other ESBs I’ve had. Nice caramel sweetness. Good heavy mouthfeel. Almost seemed like a nice amber ale. Very drinkable. Alcohol warming but not overpowering.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2013 Aromas of grape candy, oranges, and some caramel. Clear, reddish-amber, with a moderately retaining, white head. Lightly sweet, nutty flavors balanced by floral, hop bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation, and a fruity, bitter finish.

Nice reddish brown color with a thin white head. It's bitter on the tip of your tongue but gets smoother towards the back of the palate. Good malty flavor.

aroma fades fast but brew is a real winner with peat and hop and fruit punch and vibrant small carbonation that stings a bit and leaves that malt for a reminder. satisfying yet you want another. vibrant caramel ivy warming finish that lingers pleasantly. could be even better with a tweak or two. impressive esb.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep mahogany with a foamy head that fully diminishes. The nose has some sourdough, caramel and light esters. Flavors are of caramel, melon, stone fruit, biscuit, toasted malt and a finish of nice balanced metallic, tannin-peppery bitters. The finish is absolutely divine, honestly, and paired with the lively mouth, smooth palate, well-balanced round body and easy drinkability, it’s substantive and complex, yet super quaffable. Best brew by the brewery I’ve had so far, and well worth it. Great ESB!
