3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland Saturday Session 1 - 01/03/14.
Pale golden with moderate off white spotting.
Nose is pale malts, cereals, corn, pretty basic.
Taste comprises caramel, pale malt, grassy pangs, lightly toasted bread, cereals.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Ok stuff, not ’hopped up’ which is what I normally find in US pils, not saying that’s a bad thing but this is truer to style.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled on draft at the 2nd annual Virginia Beer Festival at Capital Ale House Midlothian. Pours a clear golden color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of grainy malts with strong earthy, spicy hop notes. Taste is very bitterly hoppy with spicy notes. Also fruity peach notes and caramel. Full bodied. Blue Mountain impresses.... again.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 cc from Whole Foods. Pours heavily effervescent gold with 3-finger frothy white head. Nose is pale malt, hops, caro syrup. Tastes somewhat sweet, with honey and sugar syrup notes, pale malt, heavy hops, and a complex finish. Starts and stays somewhat hot. Not a technical masterpiece by any means, but an interesting example of this style, and a well above average beer to get you to your limit tonight.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, caged and corked. Drowning my football sorrows. I love the artwork on the bottle. Pours like an imperial pilsner should, I suppose ... deep golden, slightly hazy, with a giant, firm head. The nose is sweet and slightly lemony-citric. This drinks exceptionally smooth, easy to gulp, little to hint at some 7.6% ABV. Full-bodied for sure. This is some really good stuff ... 2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled and then thrown (unintentionally) thrown on the floor. I cant believe this beer is rated so high. Pots a clear yellow golden body with thick white head. Aroma is reminiscient of lionshead. Mouthfeel is thin and grainy with notes of a cheap pale, grainy lager. Bland. Eh.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - 750mL corked and caged.Hazed gold with a tall, dense white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with flora and grassy hops, fruit notes and soft funky yeast. Doesn’t really smell like a pilsener or an imperial pilsener. Kind of smells like a Belgian beer or at least uses a funky Belgian yeast. Taste is sweet malt, toasted grains, soft honey, dusty yeast notes, grassy hops, light floral notes and fruit notes. Body is medium with a strong, dense carbonation. Finishes with more sweet malt notes, fresh fruit, floral hops, grassy notes, light biscuit malt and dusty yeast. I’ll rate the beer as it is irrespective of style.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750ml bottle from Spirits Red Bank. Poured s chunky orange body with a smaller foamy off white head. Aroma was big and boozy with wet dough, grapes, wet nut shells, old wet grains. Full bodied with a boozy finish and lots of chewiness and heat along with strong carbonation. Flavor isnt much different than aroma, booze, wort, grains, and grapes. Not a good beer and definitely not good for the price.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Cases of this stuff sitting around for $4 a bottle, so I’ve grabbed a couple. Pretty solid stuff overall. Ripe and raucous pale gold pour, with a bracing nose of noble hops, pale malts, and a bit of spicy yeast. It’s that latter element that comes across strongly as you drink the beer, melding nicely with the abundant and quite dry hops. Not a world beater by any means, but it’s pretty much how I like this style done, so they get points for that.
