4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. My first from this brewery and it made a big impression.Golden and clear with a small head. Unusual, creamy and slightly fruity taste. I still struggle with the idea of an imperial pils but if there are any more like this then bring them on. Excellent.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mild aroma, possibly corn. Crystal clear amber, headless. Honey, hay, cereal grain, good intensity and richness of flavor. Grass and husk bitterness, but certainly a malt forward German style pilsner, aside from the intensity.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Cases of this stuff sitting around for $4 a bottle, so I’ve grabbed a couple. Pretty solid stuff overall. Ripe and raucous pale gold pour, with a bracing nose of noble hops, pale malts, and a bit of spicy yeast. It’s that latter element that comes across strongly as you drink the beer, melding nicely with the abundant and quite dry hops. Not a world beater by any means, but it’s pretty much how I like this style done, so they get points for that.

Preety nice clear pale yellow pour. Nose is swweet mildly buttery hops. Flavor is a little diacytly. And floral hops. A little astringent. Not bad, but nothing too special here.

Sweet pilsener malt flavor with some noble hops and a touch of honey. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($8): Pours some sort of orange color with a white head. Aroma is mostly malty, with some hoppiness in there. Not much crispness up in here; however, this is very smooth and the alcohol does not eliminate all of the pilsener qualities. Alcohol is well-covered in any case. This is an OK, but somewhat forgettable imperial pils.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2011 Sampled at Virginia Beer Festival, one of the more eagerly awaited samples of the day, and it didn’t disappoint. Medium gold, clear. Faint, undefined hop aroma. Flavor was nice, crackery malts with a very complex hop component - spicy and floral, with a hint of anise. Really nice flavor, enjoyed it. What a great brewery. RERATE: 7/5/11. Advertised by Cap Ale as a new beer, but yeah, I had it almost exactly 2 years ago. In any case, very similar. Stronger towards the anise, perhaps not as complex, but overall the same end total. Very slight shift of numbers.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Pours a crystal clear yellow with a foamy white head. It has a light nose with hints of perfume and a bit of malt. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Grain, alcohol, and light Saaz hop spiciness. Medium-short finish with a little lingering booziness. Great on a hot day and with an extra kick!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before June 2014 on the cork. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2-3 finger dense white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, pepper, floral, bread, honey, cracker, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with great balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, floral, bread, cracker, honey, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, pepper, floral, bread, honey, cracker, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and good complexity of earthy hops, malt, and fruity ester flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly slick, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Imperial pils! All around nice balance of hop, malt, and fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
