COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Behold the subtle power of a beer whose simplicity of elements belies its complex spirit. Pilsener malt, noble Hallertau hops, lager yeast, and deep well water. By scaling up these simple ingredients we’ve turned the German pilsener "imperial" and made one of the world’s most refreshing styles of beer bigger, rounder and even more enjoyable.

Bottle, caged and corked. Drowning my football sorrows. I love the artwork on the bottle. Pours like an imperial pilsner should, I suppose ... deep golden, slightly hazy, with a giant, firm head. The nose is sweet and slightly lemony-citric. This drinks exceptionally smooth, easy to gulp, little to hint at some 7.6% ABV. Full-bodied for sure. This is some really good stuff ... 750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before June 2014 on the cork. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2-3 finger dense white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, pepper, floral, bread, honey, cracker, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with great balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, floral, bread, cracker, honey, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, pepper, floral, bread, honey, cracker, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and good complexity of earthy hops, malt, and fruity ester flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly slick, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Imperial pils! All around nice balance of hop, malt, and fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. My first from this brewery and it made a big impression.Golden and clear with a small head. Unusual, creamy and slightly fruity taste. I still struggle with the idea of an imperial pils but if there are any more like this then bring them on. Excellent.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2011 Sampled at Virginia Beer Festival, one of the more eagerly awaited samples of the day, and it didn’t disappoint. Medium gold, clear. Faint, undefined hop aroma. Flavor was nice, crackery malts with a very complex hop component - spicy and floral, with a hint of anise. Really nice flavor, enjoyed it. What a great brewery. RERATE: 7/5/11. Advertised by Cap Ale as a new beer, but yeah, I had it almost exactly 2 years ago. In any case, very similar. Stronger towards the anise, perhaps not as complex, but overall the same end total. Very slight shift of numbers.

On tap at the brewpub. This is the best American pils I’ve tried in some time. Refreshing and well balanced, with a nice hop profile and bready malt backbone. The 2-ounce sample I had left me wanting much, much more. Yum.

This is the best beer so far this summer. The alcohol is not listed I think it is 8-9% ABV. The growler was given to me for my vacation at Holden Beach. The Pils was saved for steamed crabs with my two sons and daughter. We all raved about the beer. It was full body with perfect malt and a creamy texture. The higher alcohol is detected but is a joy. This is a beer to be enjoyed with food and just sitting and looking at the ocean. Smooth finish with a lingereing taste of malt. The pils poured with a big head and deep straw color. Much lacing. This was one growler I just did not want it to end.

Pours a beautiful dark golden, topped with a good inch of firm head. The aroma is big on classic Saaz aromas, lemongrass, hay, orange blossom, all backed with a nice toasted grain note. The taste is sweet malts with a light biscuit thing going on, with the bite of hops bringing sweet relief. A lovely beer.

Location: Draft at Amity Hall, 9/27/13

Aroma: The nose has some earthy hops, grass, spice, grains, some citrus, and floral notes
Appearance: It pours a hazy golden color with a decent sized head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is well-balanced, malty, grassy, earthy, and grainy, with some fruity notes
Palate: The body is medium, it has a crisp feel, average carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this one was really quite enjoyable. I’ve been pretty impressed with Blue Mountain lately. Between the likes of Hardywood, Blue Mountain, Devil’s Backbone, and the classic Legend (among others), my home state is turning into quite the beer state. Virginia represent!

Pale yellow pour with white head. Light floral hops and malt on the nose. Sweet start with a nice floral bitter finish. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Decent drinker
