Everything is perfect in this beer . . . except no bock astringency? I cannot bring myself to decide wether this is good or bad. Very smooth!

Draft @ Corner Pocket Williamsburg VA: Light aromatics, dirt and bark. Clear garnet, medium beige head. Lightly sweet cherries and cocoa. Dirt finish. Nicely balanced; doppelbocks tend to be too sweet for my taste.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2011 This is amazing beer. The ruby brown color and nice head was very inviting. The full flavor was of malt and some spices. The bitterness was well balanced. The Hibernator went very well with the club sandwich. The higher alcohol was perfect. This is only purchased in growlers or on tap. I am heading this way again to try some more of their products. The view from their lunchroom is of the Afton pass. As we were coming back from Snowshoe we enjoyed lunch and purchased two growlers. Blue Moutian is expanding their dinning area. The full body taste of the Doppelbock appeals to me. It may have more sweetness than others. I stand by my rating.

Light fruitiness with spicy yeast character and moderate hop bitterness. Lots of caramel and dark sugar notes. Finish is sweet but dries quickly with spicy peppery residual bitterness.

Draft at the brewpub, this was a sugary-sweet beer. It had a medium body, nicely laced. Just a tickle of a spicy edge. Enjoyable beer (#3488, 11/2008)
