Tasted on 4/17/13 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle purchased at Frugal MacDoogal. Pours nearly completely black with a thick brown head that slowly recedes to thick, even lace. The nose is dark and roasty, full of freshly roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and plenty of vanilla. The flavor is the same, very coffee forward with the chocolate and vanilla taking a back seat and some very nice bitterness. The body is medium with fairly lively carbonation and a long bitter coffee, milk chocolate, and vanilla finish.

Taproom: Poured black with a small biege head and a thin lace ring around the edge. The aroma is mild roasted coffee, while the flavor is strongly coffee with a hint of dark chocolate. The alcohol content is quickly evident even though it has a smooth finish which entices you for more.

1/28/15. 12oz bottle from Smokin Joes (or something like that) in Jacksonville, AL. Black pour with a small tan head, mild lacing. Strong coffee aroma, bordering towards veggie, rich sweetness, ashy, dark roasted malts. Rich flavor, lots of coffee, roasted malts, some chocolate, a touch of acidity. Not bad.

Sampled at esbls. This is kind of ashy smokey. Some fruit and bitterness. Those two do not go together here. Not quite there. But not far from it.

Draft at the brewery. Pours Very dark brown with a very thin, fizzy white head. Tastes like mild coffee, bitter burnt toast, roasted malt, earth, light spice. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like burnt toast, burnt coffee, and woody, roasted malt.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a lasting layer of deep tan-hued foam.

Smell: As one would expect, a coffee-forward, roasty aroma with touches of the added vanilla, chocolate, and dark fruit.

Taste: Roasty malts are prominent, though some charred toast is also present. The dregs of a pot of tangy coffee thrown in, a little vanilla showing. Some chalky dark chocolate. Medium-light sweetness. A little dark fruit. Slight milky tone midway and into the drying, roasty, warming, coffee-centric finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-plus carbonation, a bit foamy in the mouth.

Overall: A fairly competent, enjoyable coffee-dosed stout.
