COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Mosaic Session IPA is a light, straw-colored, West Coast version that showcases serious aroma. It features Mosaic, Simcoe, and Centennial hops that lend strong tropical fruit characteristics to a light body and dry finish. You won’t be able to drink just one – and with less than 5% ABV, you don’t have to. Mosaic Session IPA is an homage to Blue Point Brewing Company’s storied history, a tale that is preserved on the original Tasting Room bar top that dates to 1997. It’s also one of the most personal beers we’ve crafted in a long time. Like the brewery itself, it’s been a work in progress. Our history is very much a mosaic – made up of a lot of talented people with a passion for brewing, and we think this latest brew is where our past meets our future.

Amber/gold appearance with a medium size, off white head and modest lacing. Aroma of soft fruit and citrus. Citrus flavors are more pronounced up front as the soft, tropical fruit recedes. Sweet malts make small dent in the aftertaste. Well carbonated with a lingering, spicy finish.

9/30/14. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Blue Point catching on to buzz words or what? Mosaic Session IPA? Some intern at AB must be reading the boards. I was hoping against all odds that this wouldn’t suck. I was wrong. Lightly hazed orange pour under a small khaki head with okay lacing. Taking a big whiff, I get malty doughiness, too much, and old hops and metal. Ugh. This old? I really need to learn to check before I buy in Valdosta. But I bought a 4-pack of Dark Penance on this trip and that is BRAND NEW. Anyway, I search around the bottle. Code on the neck says BTLD 06/04/14. My birthday! Which was 4 months ago. I’m no snob, but this has suffered. Malty, doughy, straw flavor, biscuity, just a hint of citrus and diesel, and probably only because I know it should be. If someone handed me this bottle blind there is no way I would guess it was a session IPA/APA/IPA/whatever. Metallic tinge lingers on my tongue. Waste of $9 and it’s not even high boost.

12oz bottle dated 5/15/14. Pours golden with a white head. Pretty decent IPA for the style. Nice hop bitterness, citrus and some slight pine. Nothing spectacular but goes down easy and packs a surprising amount of flavor for such a lightweight beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 2/27/2014. Moderate gusher upon opening. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate pale malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt sweetness; with a crisp bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a very good session IPA. All around good complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
