COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial or Double IPA is a brew not to be taken lightly. Crafted in small batches from the finest European malts and American hops. A huge earthy hop aroma is followed by a pleasant caramel sweetness. Four hop varieties round out this perfectly balanced beer that is sure to warm your soul and for that we offer No Apologies!

Draft at Max’s. Clear burnt orange amber color, soft white foamy head. First smell is great, but my nose doesn’t stay impressed over the course of the drink. First scent, however, is all sticky, sugary hop cones, dank marachino cherry scents and sweet pineapple. When warmer there’s a bit of rusty metallic hop scents that I don’t like at all. Full of grapefruit sour hop flavors, sour but not bitter, syrupy and sweet at the same time, with sugary gummi bears, burnt oranges and peach rind flavors, but it doesn’t really gel very well.

On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. A little disappointed in this one. Can I get some hops in my grapefruit juice?

TAP NY 07. Pours a medium to light amber with a decent lasting fluffy off white head and nice lace. Aroma is citrus hops, some piney, mango, a bit tropical, but I also got too much grass and even slight asparagus hints. Flavor was a bunch of american hops, moslty piney and citrus, but also noticed awierd off plasticy phenolic quality with some smokey burnt hints- almost a matchstick quality which is indicating infection. Motuhfeel is ok, and has a wierd bitterness in the end. Dissapointing from Blue Point to see this.

Tap at TAP NY 2007: Started off somewhat promising...Pours a deep orange with a very large frothy and well sustained head. Fruity and bright aroma, almost berry-like, yet it was slightly artificial and perfumy (not like pure hop resins or juicy) The flavor is astrigent, perfumy and syrupy with a burning backgroundand a harsh bitter finish. Sometimes IIPAs have no hop character, rather they just kill your taste buds with an unidentifiable assertiveness. Dissapointing.

I had this beer on tap, at Isacc Newtons in Newtown. The appearance is "fuckin good amber" as I said. I had a stuffed nose, and I could STILL smell the hoppines. Citrusy, very well hopped aroma. So I knew this was going to be good. I took a sip and I felt like I was blown away. It hits you from begining to end. The moment it hits your palate it lingers long after you swallow it.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 OK, had to go for this. Even though Iím not a fan of IPA, I keep tasting in the hopes Iíll find one in this style that I can appreciate. This was on tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson so I couldnít pass it up. Color is slightly darker than your ubiquitous pale yellow American lager. Aroma is really floral hops. Very bitter first taste. A quality that only an IPA lover could love. I would swear that somebody looked for the most bitter grapefruit rinds they could find then ground them up and added them to this brew. Has a bit of earthiness that I normally donít detect in IPA. This stuff was way too much for my girlie taste buds, it just mowed them over like a John Deere. Barely any carbonation, almost flat. Finish is back of your throat terrible bitterness that just keeps going and going and going like the energizer bunny. Somebody give me a Weyerbacher Old Heathen to chase this down with, yeeow. Iím not making any apologies for this rating.

My Bottom Line:
Wet herbal, earthy hoppiness flavors and bitters this efficient Double IPAís honeyed maltiness. A very flavorful and complex hop bomb from Blue Point which offers exactly what you expect from this bold American style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the clear pale bronze.
-The nose could have been better defined, but it remains highly competent in attracting the hop lover into this alpha-potent brew.
-The hop flavors range from orangey to leafy to wooden and dry.
-Maltiness offers some sweetness, but is mostly there to support the hop fireworks display.
-Alcohol is well concealed.

On tap at Tap NY.

Sampled from a growler: Pours a transparent copper orange with a nicely-lacing frothy white head. Has a nice, fresh citrusy and piny hoppy aroma with good sweet malty notes. Starts with a decent caramely malty sweetness but has a touch of phenolic, almost rubbery flavor before showing some grapefruity flavor. Would be a real nice double IPA if not for the off-flavors.

Tap at BP and growler. The growlers aroma had faded a good bit but at BP the hops were fairly strong and fresh. The growler had some yeasty phenols that stood out. Pine and floral hop start and fiish. Malty middle with a moderately bitter semi-dry finish. Medium to full bodied.
