3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: garnet and coppers under an orange pith tinged head which fades into a thin yet persistent layer. Swirls with lace crawling up the sides of my glass.
Nose: sticky resinous pine sap, hop oils, and grapefruit oils. Crunchy caramelized sugars and malt underneath – rustic. Candied pineapple chunks – sweet and succulent. Mint leaf weaves in and out. Rain and forests, dew-dropped greenery and shrubbery.
Palate: big, thick, sticky, and chewy. Massive mint and floral notes swimming in an ocean of pine, fern, and Christmas trees. Bitter tree bark and pink grapefruit rind in the finish. Like chewing on fresh Christmas trees, ferns, pine, bark, and hop cones all wrapped up in fresh mint leaf – sounds horrible but tastes delicious. Each swallow grabs the back of my throat with spicy alcohol heat. Lemon rind joins in and my tooth enamel bids adieu.
Final Thoughts: Blue Point has been and still is hit or miss with me, and their No Apologies Double IPA was a homerun with bracing unapologetic hops. Borderline unbalanced, Blue Point nonetheless pulls it off. I recommend this one as fresh as you can get it, from the tap if you can or the bottle if you can’t.

On tap @ Top Hops. All malt, hold the hops? Some sweet spruce, no bite at all, not that I need any bite (in fact some of the best have none) but there is no hop character IMHO, really really sweet for an IIPA. Not sure I follow, perhaps it was an off keg / pour. Color was copper with off white head. Super sweet & gooey, sweet malt bomb.

Flaska.

Synd .

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy copper-golden, thick head, leaves substantial lacing on the glass. Not the overpowering hop aroma of some Imperial IPAs, but pleasant hoppy aroma. Malt profile that balances the hop bitterness is what shines for me on this one, and the resinous mouthfeel, bordering oily. Vanilla, apricot, not-quite butterscotch flavor balanced enjoyable by the malts. A bit of a grapefruity and orange flavor going on. Outstanding ale.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught@Oliver Twist, Stockholm (backlog). Hazy orange colour, small off-white head. Aroma is resin, spruce, citrus, mild diacetylic notes as well as mild alcohol. Flavour is resiny, toffeeish, fruity citrusy and quite big on the bitter side of it. Still very pleasant flavour, though I’m not a big hophead.

Bomber bottle. Thanks brother. Twas the night before Christmas, and this beer poured a golden honey color. Aroma of floral hops, caramel, biscuit. Medium to heavy body. Medium bitterness. Has big malty backbone. With generous floral pine hops. A mouthful of a dipa.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Thick and hazy dirty amber, light to moderate frothy sandy head, so-so lacing. Heavily caramel biscuity sweet aroma, slight overcooked vegetables detract. Not as offensive on the tongue. Pale caramel, minor overcooked vegetables, a little citrusy, but not biting. Comes across more as a weak American Barley Wine. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Strong sweet tea, caramel, and citrus peel on the finish. Can’t tell its 10% which is nice, but the overcooked vegetable aspect takes away from the experience.
