Dark opaque brown. This had a strong coffee/chocolate malt aroma. No hops that I could tell. light smokiness. was a bit one dimentional, a bit watery than i expected from an oatmeal stout. not bad though.

Bottle. Creamy white head with roasted malt aroma. Thin beer with very watery finish. Lacks the taste complexity of a good oatmeal stout.

Pint at Angels and Kings, NY ($6): Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of nuts, chocolate, and roasted malts. Very full flavored beer. Has some sweet notes in there, but this is not amongst the sweeter of the sweet stouts. The chocolate flavor in this beer is quite good, without being at all watery. I drank the whole thing when it was cold and it went down extraordinarily well. This is the kind of stout I can drink on a warm summer day.

On tap. Dark brown with a substantial off-white head. Nose is sweet, roasty malts, chocolate and toffee. A bit thin but smooth with a nice balance of a sweetish start with dark roasty malts, bitter chocolate, and some more toffee.

Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a black color with a trace beige head. The aroma was dryish and roasty with a touch of coffee. The flavor was dry, smoky and bitter with light floral hops and a touch of coffee and vanilla. The finish was long, dry, bitter and roasty. Fairly full bodied. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at IBG. Pours a dark chocolate brown color with a tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma. The flavor was less impressive to me. A little too sweet compared to most stouts and the mouthfeel seemed a little oily and thin.

Purchased on tap at Winslow’s Tavern, Greenville, NC
Beautiful appearance; delicious but felt too light on the palate for a stout.
