3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 13, 2006
Tap and cask at the brewery - sampled side by side - dark ruby, almost black, with a creamy head from the cask (obviously), and none from the tap - aroma of roasted grains, a bit of coffee, a tiny hint of caramel and chocolate - the mouthfeel is quite smooth from the cask, but a bit too bubbly out of the tap - how does it tastes from the tap? - light roasted qualities, with a bit of cream and coffee, and a very prominent, fruity, almost blueberry-ish flavor - and from the cask? - the roasted flavor and coffee hints are more prominent, and the fruitiness is subdued - the body is a bit thin, and the finish kind of falls flat in the flavor department, but this is a pretty decent effort (and quite authentically "British" on cask) - I prefer it from the cask, but it’s worth a shot no matter how it’s served.

Tap at Westside Brewing. Dark brown with a thick tan head. Smelled like grain, coffee, chocolate and roasted grains. Taste really did not do a lot for me. Slight hints of what I mentioned above but a little weak. I want more roasted coffee, caramel and chocolate from a Porter and I did not get it here. A descent effort but not memorable.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 sheatripper (863) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - FEB 6, 2007
Draught at Brazen Head. Poured dark brown/black with a light brown head. Aroma of dark roast coffee malts and some dried dark fruit (prune). Dark roasted malt, almost smoky flavor, with a slightly bitter charred leaf finish. Medium bodied, though kind of a watery mouthfeel. After a while, it started to bore me.

Cask at Ginger Man. Aroma of roasted malt, butterscotch. Flavor the same and adds a nice chocolate component, particularly at the swallow. Aside from this subtle chocolate component, though, not much here to marvel at.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 shintriad (700) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 11, 2007
Tap. The requisite coffee and chocolate notes were here, but it was just too thin and weak to truly win me over. The distinctly sour finish was also a flaw. The smokey and nutty (carob) tastes added something, but it could have asserted itself much more.

On cask at Ginger Man. Pours black with a small tan head (surprising for a cask beer). Aroma of buttered popcorn and roasted malt. Flavor of more buttered popcorn, roasted malt, and slight chocolate. Weak bodied. Meh, this was not very good. Bad flavors and weak mouthfeel.
