3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 apoptosis (1316) - Long Island, USA - OCT 19, 2006
On tap at the brewery...A very malty, very roasty porter. It looks decent, as expected, with a rich dark brown body, smallish tan head. Only slighlty bitter hops in the aroma, but many more so in the flavor. It is smooth and creamy, overall quite mild and very easy to drink. I wish they had had it on cask this weekend, but no such luck.

on tap at the brewery in patchogue- pours an opaque black color with very little light getting through. Aroma is very sweet with roasted nuts and coffee (more like toffee). Taste is much less sweet than the aroma and is rather bitter. Palate is rough but the flavor does fill up the palate. Tough to warm up to at first but as the drink wears on its becomes very good.

Cask at the Ginger Man, NYC.
Smooth, some dry cocoa and coffee, but quite subdued.
A pleasant session beer, but it hardly stands out.

On cask at Ginger Man. Pours black with a small tan head (surprising for a cask beer). Aroma of buttered popcorn and roasted malt. Flavor of more buttered popcorn, roasted malt, and slight chocolate. Weak bodied. Meh, this was not very good. Bad flavors and weak mouthfeel.

Cask at Ginger Man. Aroma of roasted malt, butterscotch. Flavor the same and adds a nice chocolate component, particularly at the swallow. Aside from this subtle chocolate component, though, not much here to marvel at.

Think lacing head. Dark and smooth looking. Smells of chocolate, malt. Does not disappoint in taste. it’s smooth.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 shintriad (700) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 11, 2007
Tap. The requisite coffee and chocolate notes were here, but it was just too thin and weak to truly win me over. The distinctly sour finish was also a flaw. The smokey and nutty (carob) tastes added something, but it could have asserted itself much more.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 sheatripper (863) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - FEB 6, 2007
Draught at Brazen Head. Poured dark brown/black with a light brown head. Aroma of dark roast coffee malts and some dried dark fruit (prune). Dark roasted malt, almost smoky flavor, with a slightly bitter charred leaf finish. Medium bodied, though kind of a watery mouthfeel. After a while, it started to bore me.

Tap at Barcade. Thick tan head over a dark ruby-tinted beer. Aroma is fairly sweet and caramelly with plenty of cherry fruitiness as well. Flavour shows some smokiness, sweet t/cherry fruit and some light caramel/toasty flavours as well. The Blue Point house character is very much in evidence here but it’s well integrated with the other toasted/roasted malts Flavour is not roasty, but shows lots of toasted dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Some lightly herbal hop character. A pretty tasty porter.
