Pours amber/copper in coloration. a somewhat hoppy aroma . The rye is undoubtedly noticeable in the flavor yet an ipa esc quality shines through it due primarily to the notable grapefruit flavor.

Growler from Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. Pours a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma of light fruits and sweet malt, a touch of citrusy and floral hops. Flavor of grainy rye initially and some crackery malt and bitter hops in the finish. Light nuttiness too. On the sweet side, yes, but overall pretty decent. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

Cask at 3rd Manhattan Cask Fest. Hazy golden appearance. Aroma is lightly toasty and fruity and a little bit of citrusy hoppiness. Low esters and quite clean tasting. The beer is in great shape. Nice crackery pale malts and a touch of soft zestiness as well. Lingering lemon citrusy hop finish. I like it.

Cask at 3rd Manhattan Cask Fest: Pours a nice copper with a well retained tan head. Chewy malt aroma- some rye sweetness, bready caramel notes and a light American hop spiciness. Rounded palate. The flavor has a balance of nutty crystal malt notes, sweet bready rye, and a spicy, lightly resiny hop finish. Pretty typical profile, but this stuff served fairly well on cask.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2010 Appearance is a dark amber red, white head. The aroma is rye, hops, caramel. Like a pale ale with rye in it. The flavor is rye, caramel malts, and hops (floral). The finish is mainly a floral hoppiness, some rye left on the palate. Enjoyable beer.

Mini growler from Half-Time. Pours a clear ruby amber with a large tanned head. Grain, lemon, and sweet malt. Piles of light carbonation improve the slightly thin mouth feel. Good long bitter finish, with a bit of toast, and a hint of sweetness echoing the start of the beer. There’s also that hint of a metallic note I find in a lot of Blue Point’s stuff.

Growler filled at Dave’s Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. Pours a hazy amber with a thin-moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left a thin veil of foam. Mild, pleasant aroma of rye along with some indistinct fruit. The flavor is strong rye grain with not much else. In fact, I would call it sharp. A bit of a date flavor emerges after a few seconds, but the rye remains strong. An alcohol flavor starts to come through at the finish. Moderate bitterness. An ok beer.

Growler fill from the brewery - pours a slightly hazy reddish copper, with a thick ring of foam around the glass - very present rye in the nose, in fact, aside from some indistinct maltiness and fruity notes, that’s almost all I smell - I love rye, though, so I don’t mind at all - medium bodied, somewhat creamy in the mouth - strong rye starts things out, with moderate bitterness, but the beers gets really sweet, really fast - the rye remains there to balance things a bit - gets a little spicy and herbal near the finish, with a tea-like character - a little one-dimensional and overly sweet, but this is a decent beer for these guys.
