A rye pale ale created specially for the 5th annual Blue Point Cask Festival.

Tap, Mr. Goodbar. Copper body, white head. Nose is apple, dusty malt, some rye spice, some lemony clay-like malt. Flavor is honey, spicy malt (black pepper), some unripe put fruit towards the butter, grainy finish.

Cask @ Rattle n Hum, served in an imperial pint glass. The beer presents with a glowing clear light brown color. Atop of that sits a nice thick white head with a sticky lacing. The aroma is a mix of watery tea from the malts and juicy hops, not too strong and similar to fruit punch (think Hawaiian Punch). The flavor, on the hand hand, is more aggressive in its hoppiness with more bitterness coming through. I do not detect and spiciness of toast from the rye but just a tea like maltiness. The best part of this beer come from the cask, which is actually served at the proper cask temperature. This also allows for an undercarbonated mouthfeel, which makes for a velvet like feel on the cheeks. Similarly, the head produced is pretty to look at. The beer itself is very plain and average, which goes right along the other Blue Point products.

On tap. Pours a clear, darker amber with a modest, off-white head. Good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of rye bread, fennel seed, toasted/bready malts, tropical fruits. Taste is orange juice, citrus, rye malt, caramel, black pepper. A strange concoction but very enjoyable. Reminds me of a great, fresh microbrew. Excellent.

(draft) Medium off-white head atop clear amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, orange/floral, light rye. Taste is moderately sweet, orange/floral, some rye. Smooth light-medium body, some resin. One of the best beers at integrating the rye into the flavor.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a medium head. Good head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is very malty with toast, hops and spicy rye notes. Taste is toasted malts, caramel and big fruit notes, particularly peach. Dry rye and and citrus hop finish.

On tap at Coles, Buffalo NY. Pours a Golden amber. Muted aromas of floral hops, toasted malts. Flight is sweet & toasted maltiness with medium bitterness in the finish. OK

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 05/05/2009. Clear copper amber body with a small frothy off-white head. Sweet floral and spicy aroma. Dry floral hop flavor with a spicy rye background and a moderately bitter finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of hops, light rye, light fruit, lightly toasty malts, and a hint of cocoa. Poured copper/amber in color with a small, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Lightly hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malts, cocoa, rye, hops, slight caramel, and resin. Medium body. Chalky texture. Average carbonation. Chalky, hoppy, rye, finish.

Growler. Aroma of tropical fruits, rich, sweet, rye malt with a nougat character. Flavor is very sweet, surprisingly sweet almost, considering all the hoppy, tropical fruit notes that continue to come through. Pretty simple, and a bit too sweet for me to want to finish a whole pint, but not bad either.
