On tap @ Lure’s, Crownsville Md-Amber pour w/a tan head. Malty aroma. Had some malt, some bread dough/rye flavor, some nuts, a little more hop than I prefer in a Rye Ale, felt the hop flavor just kind of muddled it up. I almost think of this style as being similar to a winter brew, this one really didn’t do it for me.

Bottle poured into glass. I didn’t know what to expect from this one since I’m not a big rye beer fan but this was actually surprisingly good. Good aroma of hops and slight honey with a good bit of malty goodness in the flavor.

Appearance: coppery gold, just off-white head, some sticky lace. Aroma: light notes of caramel and toast, with a good whiff of spicy, floral hops. Taste: toasty malts with just a hint of rye, slightly foral and slightly citrusy hops. Finish: medium-length, smooth and crisp, with balanced flavors slowly fading. Notes: I like a little rye in my beer every once in awhile. This one was a little light on the rye, but it was there. Overall, very balanced. Essentially a well-done pale ale/ESB flavor with a little extra heat. Very easy drinking.

Bottle. Dark amber pour. Bread, lightly spicy (peppery), hops, and light notes of rye. Not much rye, not my favorite beer.

Not generally a big fan of Rye Ales, but this is one mighty fine brew. Pours and orangish brown, with a finger of white head that laces nicely. A nose of Rye and Ale. Very well balanced base ale and rye flavors. This beer is drinking mighty fine right now. If you see one, grab it up it definitely worth a shot!

Tap at hopcat. Clear, dark amber with minimal head. Soapy and spicy hops, with rye and bready malts. Finish has an off-putting spicy, herbal character to it...blah
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ron (1985) - Rochester, New York, USA - AUG 25, 2011
We picked this up during our ill fated trip last Sat. to BOTW. Dirt brown pour. Huge pungent hops, spicy rye aroma. Smooth malty taste with a citrus hop and spicy bitterness. OK, but not one of my favorite styles.

Plastic pint at the brewery during the Mickey Hart Band. Aroma is piney, spicy hops. Not much rye on the nose. Medium bodied, dry and spicy. Once again, not much rye on the palate.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 warmsilence (25) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - AUG 20, 2011
poured into glass from 22oz bottle, deep golden orange color, the aroma is slightly sour and doesn’t quite prepare for the huge piney taste of this beer. medium (oily?) body with a pleasing dense sourness, well-balanced by a hoppy bitter aftertaste. Excellent find.
