Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure there’s plenty of it available for Valentine’s Day – after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try – like true love, it’s sometimes hard to find.

Pours a nice dark brown wild a sudsy head. It is a bit doughy, the sour cherry flavor is very mild a little bit disappointing over all. Purchased in a growler from Holiday beverage.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours black with a substantial, beige head. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and faint berry. Flavor is sweet with rich with more roast and mocha, as well as some understated cherry. Medium to full bodied with very smooth carbonation. Finishes roasty and sweet with some dry bitterness. Quite good.

Bottle. Dull brown color, coca-cola head. Aroma of chocolate muffin. Tastes like sour root beer. Interesting, and probably worth trying again.

Drank from the tap at the Blue Point Brewery. Aroma is roasted malt and a barely noticeable hint of cherry. Taste is mostly of malt, a little bit of chocolate and just the slightest kick of sour cherry. 9% abv is well hidden.

Draft. Small tan head atop brown/black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, cherry, light duskiness. Taste is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, cherry, light sourness, wood. Smooth medium body, alcohol well contained. A tasty beer despite the relative absence of the sourness mentioned in the beer’s name.

Draft @ R’n’H. Dark pour with tan head. Slight cherry, slight soutes., chemical/medicinal cherry notes. Should be a mix of two of my favorite styles, let down.

On draft at Rattle ’N’ Hum. I was drawn to it because ’sour’ was in the name. Pours a dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma of malts, cherries and espresso. Flavour of sour cherries, malts, grains and maybe a hint of coffee and milk. Smooth and palatable. The aroma was a bit weak.
