Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure there’s plenty of it available for Valentine’s Day – after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try – like true love, it’s sometimes hard to find.

Had this at a recent tasting. Nothing really at all memorable about this. Don’t recall any sourness at all.

didnt get much sour, or cherry, and as a stout itself, it was pretty forgettable.

Bottle. Dark, but thin visual appeal. Head is firm and holding. Chalky, baking chocolate aroma. Bountiful drink ... rich with full chocolate in the background, a nice cherry pie swirl in the front. Good, good stuff. (#5428, 2/7/2014)

On tap 6.5 oz. Pour at Carpool in Herndon, VA. Opaque, near black with a finely creamy tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with subtle sour cherries and chocolate. Taste of dark fruit, roasted malt, sour cherries, chocolate, licorice. Sweet, roasty and gently tart. Medium body and low/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at The Beer Store Wilson. Black hue, zero visibility with mostly lasting caramel head. Heavy malt, chocolate & alcohol on the nose. Chocolate and some dark fruit up front with some smoke & coffee on the finish. I was looking for the sour cherry but didn’t find it. Oily on the palate. Was an okay stout.

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of smoke, dark chocolate, and faint dark fruit. Flavor is good with espresso and chocolate, smoky malts, and just a touch of cherry on the finish. Honestly, I barely tasted the cherry until about the 3rd sip but it is indeed there. This one grows on me after a while and is quite enjoyable. I have tried a few mediocre offerings from Blue Point but this is not one of them. Nice beer.

Not a bad beer. Ok stout. Where is the sour cherry flavor. If I was given this blind folded, no way would have thought sour cherry. It was a good stout , but you could get better .

Ale Alpharetta December Meeting. Not sure that I have liked any cherry imperial stouts that I have had. This one is not an exception. Nose of molasses, roasted malts, touch of cherry juice, dark chocolate. Taste does not show that much sour cherry. More of a sherry/cherry note but not sour per se. Same roast, chocolate, molasses. Just not a big fan of cherry stouts I am starting to learn.

Pours a dark brown with a voluminous off white head. Aroma is complex with roasted malt, dark stone fruit, and cherry. Moderately sweet flavor with a tart short lasting finish. Overall great stout for the winter.
