COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure there’s plenty of it available for Valentine’s Day – after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try – like true love, it’s sometimes hard to find.

On tap at Plan B - Glastonbury, CT. Aroma gives a distinct tart cherry aroma, with a solid stout base behind. Flavors are good and express a real clean fresh, tart pie cherry character, well married with the underlying stout. It’s a bit sweet, but the acidity fights that off a bit. I really appreciate the original quality to the cherry flavor. Nice fruit work and a good sipper.

Dark almost black pour with a thick beige head.. Aromas of chocolate, and some fruit. Got absolutely nothing sour on the tongue... In fact was very sweet, but not necessarily from any cherry flavor, def some type of sweet fruitiness though. Medium body, some lacing, really nice sweet aftertaste that lingered. Was even thirst-quenching to a point which I don’t think I’ve ever said about a stout before.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Hunger Mountain CO-OP. vintage is 2013. Snifter shows the typical black color with thin beige head. Really nice aroma of chocolate malt, coffee and a underlying cherry note. What is really odd is the cherry isn’t found anywhere in the flavor. The other flavors are chocolate, dark fruit and molasses. Yet where is the cherry?? The texture is oily with carbonation giving a slightly creamy feel on the tongue. It’s not a bad stout at all, I was just wanting to taste the cherry. Perhaps some batches are better then others??

Pours black. Not intensively thick on the pour. Nose is light cherry, barley and tangy oak. Chocolate is very present. Cocoa and ripe cherries. I’m not getting a lot of sour. Maybe some grape skin. I get a lot of cedar and copper pennies. It’s decent. Not insanely memorable.

22oz bottle, shared by brew3crew. Mostly clear brown color. Thin brown head. Dots of lace. Black cherry, light smoke, hint of coffee in the nose. Smooth, soft lighter carbonation. Bigger body. Taste is moderate bitter, light sweet, light tart. Alright imperial stout... Doesn’t really work that great for me

Bomber to snifter (shared by brew3crew). Looks good; a fairly opaque dark cola with thin beige lacing. Smells of dark malt and a bit of roast. Tastes like it smells with a bit of a tart cherry presence too. Decent on the palate. Not bad, but nothing special.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, late 2012 bottling. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lightly tart cherry, cherry skin, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, toast, and roasted earthiness. Nice and interesting aromas with good balance of roasted malt notes with a moderate amount of cherry presence. Taste of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, lightly tart cherry, roasted malt, cocoa, toast, coffee, light floral, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, cherry, toast, light coffee, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors; with a fair amount of cherry flavor and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good fruit imperial stout. Good balance and complexity of roasted flavors with a fair amount of cherry notes; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Opaque black with a thin tan head. Creamy full body with medium carbonation.

Aroma: carafa or black patent, sour cherry, and some ale yeast complexity.

Taste: carafa or black patent malt, complex yeast phenols, sour cherries.

What’s there is nice, but it’s too phenolic and lacks depth.

Fine imperial stout! Dark black color with firm body. Dark, roasted malt color , aroma and flavor. But cherries add little flavor.

My new favorite beer. Dark, easy to drink. Not to much cherry, but the smell is amazing.

Bottle at Dak’s. Pours dark brown with a minimal khaki head. Aroma is some roast, cocoa and cherry. Taste is semi sweet with more fruit. Relatively thin body. Ok.
