Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure thereís plenty of it available for Valentineís Day Ė after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try Ė like true love, itís sometimes hard to find.

My new favorite beer. Dark, easy to drink. Not to much cherry, but the smell is amazing.

Bottle. Dark, but thin visual appeal. Head is firm and holding. Chalky, baking chocolate aroma. Bountiful drink ... rich with full chocolate in the background, a nice cherry pie swirl in the front. Good, good stuff. (#5428, 2/7/2014)

Comes out of the tap a warm sable just a scratch above black with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Malty aroma has chocolate, caramel, cherry and nutty hints. Satisfying flavor has a core of roast malt plus notes of cherry, more sweet than sour, Texture has good body and plenty of fizz. If you like cherries and stouts, this is a must!

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2007 I thought this was pretty nice. Not overpowering with a nice slight cherry flavor. Hints in the aroma of their Oatmeal stout and a nice smooth flavor. Excellent brew. Top notch.

Tap at the brewery: Yummy. Very authentic cherry aroma with strong notes of chocolate and coffee. Very well-balanced, with the perfect amount of sweetness, tartness and creaminess. In fact, Iím impressed with how smooth this one is, considering that cherries sometimes make things too tart to be called "smooth". There is a slight astringency in the finish from the alcohol, but itís warming and not bothersome, nor does it detract from enjoying the rest of the experience.

Draft: inky in the glass as it should be.Roasty and fruity nose. Very complex taste but true to style. Fruity and roasted finish with slight alcohol at the back of the throat. Didnít get any cherries but Iím sure they have a hand in the overall taste profile. Very nice but high alcohol makes for limited consumption at one sitting.

Draft at DRE. Deep black/ruby edged pour, with creamy, 1-finger tan head. Aroma of heavy dark chocolate, molasses, dark malt, mild cherry. Tastes rich and roasty dark malty, with dark chocolate and subdued cherry notes. Rich, creamy palate, with solid complexity. I had two glasses of this and will likely growler it in the future. This is a very good beer.

On tap at Rattle-N-Hum in NYC. Pours charcoal black in color with a trim beige head. Smells and tastes of dark cherries, cream, toasted malts, caramel, and coffee. Probably the best beer Iíve tried from Blue Point. Good stuff.

Draught sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Deep black with ruby flashes and a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, tobacco, chocolate, cherry and smoke. Flavour is very nice - hints of source cherry poke through a fantastic malty stout, with a lingering bitter and fruity finish that gets better and better as it warms. Mouthfeel is a little light for an Imperial, but it works well with this beer. Nice stuff!

Draught and labeled "Sour Cherry Stout": Aroma was lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Smelled of chocolate, roasting, smoke, and dark cherry. Poured black with a thick, creamy, brown head that lasted throughout. Great lacing. Opaque. Flavor was lightly bitter. Tasted of roasted malts, chocolate, and dark chocolate. Medium to full body. Average carbonation. Dry chocolate finish. Overall, a good Imperial Stout.
