goldtwins (3732), Nesconset, New York, USA Apr 24, 2007 Tap @ Blue Point: Poured a clear deep amber color with a medium sized beige head. Caramel malt aroma with a touch of fruit. The flavor was also caramel and malty with a light fruitiness. Mild hops on the finish. Semi-dry. JoeMcPhee (3692), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 13, 2008 Amber-copper coloured brew. Aroma is quite hoppy and grassy with a light nutty malt character as well. Slightly lemony and citrusy with a bit of nice crisp rye spiciness. There is a bit of cherryish fruitiness as well. Quite nicely balanced, spicy and fruity. Herbal/spicy hoppy bitterness. Lightly resiny. It’s pretty nice. Eyedrinkale (3104), Beer Town, New York, USA Mar 15, 2008 Cask at Pacific Standard. Aroma is pretty malty with some rye and chocolate. Terrific beer which is Sofa King smooth anfld perfectly hoppy. Grassy with some peanut and cocoa. Best Blue Point beer since forever! Flavor of light roast, citrus, some rye and toasted malt. notalush (2033), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Mar 31, 2007 Updated: Jul 12, 2008This year’s version is not the beer I had last year - I don’t remember rye being present, and now it’s the dominant flavor in the beer - much fuller body on this one, too - it’s a little bit sweet, but the rye and hop bitterness do a decent job og making it tolerable - not bad - //////// I’ve had several pints of this at this point, both from the tap and out of a growler, and I still can’t exactly pinpoint the style (the folks pulling the taps at the brewery didn’t really know) - all I can tell is that it is a dark-colored lager, so "american dark lager" it is - of course, this does not speak well for the beer - it lacks any distinct, defining characteristics - dark copper with minimal head, despite a fizzy body - lighty bready aroma, with hints of toasted grain and very faint whiffs of malt - light-bodied, with a moderate, spicy hop profile - buttery qualities mix fairly well with a slight nuttiness - the background offers faint hints of bock-ish malt flavors - this beer really isn’t sure what it wants to be when it grows up; all it knows is it wants you to drink it, and that’s okay with me - it’s a nice, quaffable spring beer, regardless of its lack of character.
