Draft at MacGregors in Rochester. Pours amber with a white head. Aroma is mostly floral and citrus hops. Medium body. Flavor is floral hops up front, followed by a caramel and nutty note and has a lingering bitter finish of roasted malt and floral hops.

I enjoyed this beer. Nice color, nice body. Very dry and slightly bitter. I’m guessing Specialty grain means ’Rye’. Since that seems to be the popular opinoin. Either way, I like it. It’s nice to see something new from Blue Point as well as be available outside of the brewery.

12oz bottle pours a perfect clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma has sugar sweet malts and a mix of spicy hops and oily grapefruit rind. The taste is pretty hop forward with spicy hops and tart and bitter citrus hops that roll toward a brief mild note of malt graininess as well as faint sweet caramel, butterscotch and fruity esters.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear golden copper color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, toast, biscuit, light caramel, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced citrus hop and bready malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, toast, biscuit, light caramel, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, toast, biscuit, light caramel, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of citrus hops and bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice amber ale. All around good balance and robustness of citrus hops and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 Taster at brewpub. Orange/copper color, clear beer. A sweet nutty maltiness, some light floral hoppiness. Taste is mineral with light citrus fruit and lightly malty. Easy drinking and thirst quenching. A very nice mix of nutty lager and a lightly hopped American ale. I would say this is a Vienna/APA mix. Definitely returnable and recommended.7/3/6/3/14

Re-rate from growler: very different brew the 2nd time around. Still the same color but has a beautiful large head. Aroma has gone all the way hoppy and looses and of the lagered maltiness and nuttiness it had before. Aroma is all hops with light citrus, light pine and light sweet hops. Taste is similar and finishes with light bitterness and extremely easy drinking. A definite improvement.7/4/7/3/15

Cask conditioned at Mahars. Another good session beer. Flavor was sweet and not at all hoppy, but a good balance was there.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma of rye seed, rye bread, light citrus and floral hops. Flavor very rye malty, sweet rye, with bittering hops rubbing up against it. Bitter finish but never completely obstructs the rye malt. Pretty tasty.
