Toxic Sludge is our version of the relatively new Black IPA style. Care should be taken to not spill this heavy ale, as the results could be disastrous, so please consume BP Toxic Sludge responsibly. Hopped at four stages of the brewing process, we combined a hoppy India Pale Ale with a richer, darker malt base for a full bodied beer that’s big on flavor. This limited release, specialty brew was crafted to benefit birds affected by BP’s 2010 Gulf oil spill. 100% of the proceeds go to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research for their “Spreading Our Wings” campaign. Available only in draft and 22-ounce bottles – you can do more for the birds than drinking your share of Toxic Sludge, donate or buy a cool, limited edition BP Toxic Sludge “Save the Buffleheads” Tshirt: bptoxicsludge.com

1pint can. a reddish brown beer with a very large, foamy, beige head. earthy hop notes with a cocoa powder notes in aroma. hops are quite strong in the flavor adding a lot of citrusy bitterness while keeping an earthy note as well. roasty malt backbone. has an interesting lightish body for the style which im really diggin.

Poured into a shaker pint glass from a 16 oz Can. Tight, light amber head. Nice brewer’s lacing. Color is deep mahogany. True to style. Ibu approx. 70. Very drinkable Black IPA. Can graphics reminiscent of an energy beverage. Branding stinks. Deserves a better presentation.

Very deep and dark red hue with thick white lacing. Medium coffee nose that is pretty straight forward. The palate also has a nice creamy coffee aspect to it with a nice cascadian hop finish. Not as full bodied as other black IPAs. Almost a little bit to easy drinking.

(Bottle). Pours a mahogany brown with thin tan lacing. Well-balanced black IPA hybrid at a reasonable price point. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Good solid brew from the blue point gang. Pours dark, tastes light. Good character, palate is slightly thin. Not the best black ipa, stone stone still holds that honor. In fact this isn’t blue point’s best ipa, hoptical illusion still holds that honor. This beer is definitely worth a try.

Pours an opaque black on tap with frothy tan head that dissipates to thin lace, leaving great lacing on the way down. Aroma is really light, maybe some hops. Taste is bitter hops, roasted malts, and coffee. Decent, but nothing awesome.

Pours pitch black and smells like its name. Muddled boozy wet dog and burnt aroma. Taste follows with a lot going on, none of it which I like. Dirt and booze flavor, a little roast. Was disappointed with this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

66cl Bottle@ RBBSG Courtesy of Jeff. Dark brown coloured beer with a short off white head. Roasted alcohoic aroma with some clear hoppy hints. Full palate. Finish is hoppy (going to extreme hoppy) with a light roasted malty hint. Strong but nice.

Thx. to Jeff. Bomber sample @ RBBSG 2012. Dark brown with a light bordeaux hue, little head. Sweet and hoppy smell, mocha, touch roast, light berries, plenty of american hops, caramel. Taste is bitter coffee grounds mixed with caramel, sweet mocha, some roast, sweeter chocolate, pushing away a bit the pine hops which are rather tuned down.tad fruits, hint brown sugar. Tad softer carb. medium body. Good stuff.

A dark beer lovers dream, this was a hoppy beer with a deep dark color. While there are hints of malt, this was to hoppy for my liking.
