COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Toxic Sludge is our version of the relatively new Black IPA style. Care should be taken to not spill this heavy ale, as the results could be disastrous, so please consume BP Toxic Sludge responsibly. Hopped at four stages of the brewing process, we combined a hoppy India Pale Ale with a richer, darker malt base for a full bodied beer that’s big on flavor. This limited release, specialty brew was crafted to benefit birds affected by BP’s 2010 Gulf oil spill. 100% of the proceeds go to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research for their “Spreading Our Wings” campaign. Available only in draft and 22-ounce bottles – you can do more for the birds than drinking your share of Toxic Sludge, donate or buy a cool, limited edition BP Toxic Sludge “Save the Buffleheads” Tshirt: bptoxicsludge.com

Poured into a shaker pint glass from a 16 oz Can. Tight, light amber head. Nice brewer’s lacing. Color is deep mahogany. True to style. Ibu approx. 70. Very drinkable Black IPA. Can graphics reminiscent of an energy beverage. Branding stinks. Deserves a better presentation.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2010 FOR THOSE IPA FANS WHO ARE STILL PUZZLED BY THIS BLACK IPA REVOLUTION LET ME TELL YOU THAT A BLACK IPA IS JUST AN IPA WITH ROASTED MALTS ADDED, WHICH MAKES THE BREW MUCH DARKER AND DELICIOUS. THIS ONE IS TERRIFIC, IT POURS BLACK WITH A THICK SLUDGY HEAD MAKING THE NAME FOR IT PERFECT. THE AROMA IS INCREDIBLY UNIQUE AND DELIGHTFUL IT REAKS OF PREMIUM DARK ROASTED COFFEE AND FINE RICH CHOCOLATE MIXED WITH TOP GRADE HOPS!! THE FLAVOR IS THAT OF BITTER SWEET HOPS LIKE THAT OF A GOOD IPA BALANCED WELL WITH ROASTED MALTS BITTER CHOCOLATE AND DARK COFFEE. AT 4.99 THIS BREW IS A STEAL AND IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE BIRDS.

On tap at Pinocchio’s. One of the best black IPA’s that I’ve had! Dark as night pour, frothy head. Cocoa aroma. Hops are citrus, sweet cocoa and roast, a touch a milky lactic acid. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Poured from a can into a snifter. Great black color with a thin head. The aroma is roasted malt and hoppy, but not too overpowering like a lot of black IPA's I've had. The taste is a perfect blend of toasty malt and hops. Not too bitter. Great black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I just LOVE you guys at Blue Point. You sure know how to brew a hop!!!!!!! P nice and dark, though some light still came thru. Tan and creamy head lasts well into the beer, really nice lacing on my glass. Wonderful malt and hop aroma. Taste is all hop but not tooo bitter. Mouthfeel is good but not too heavy. A bit dry but a nice dry. Nice bittering on the back side. Supposed to send a bottle of this to a Lost professional Scouter from the Island now in Las Vegas. Do I send it, or drink it? I was all over you guys when you were in Asheville to get this to the NC Coast! It was worth the wait! Thanks for knowing your way around brewing and how to treat a Hop!

A delicious black IPA! Not as hoppy as some IPA’s, very smooth with a strong flavor. Highly recommended for IPA lovers.

The best black ipa Ive had yet. 16oz can into a large pilsner glass, pours a cola brown, red amber highlights, cherry coke reminiscant, and visable thoughout, a nice new appearance for a black ipa, rather than the midnight black. Aroma is pine, bitter melon, tart candy, and a hop filed. Taste is sweet hops, an enjoyable bitterness that cleans up rather quickly and then ushers in the fresh hops and melon tangents. The drinkability of this one is superb, not as dark and down as most black ipas, this one leaves a lager freshness and smooth finish with the hop malt balance, it is really a very well balanced brew. Finally a black ipa I will want to go after each time I see it. Excellent.

Sampled at Get Real NY, cask ale festival. A limited release, profits go to the BP oil split relief. My favorite Blue Point to date. This sucker was very dark, taste was fresh hop. Complex
