Draught, Abraxas. Reddish dark-brown with a thin head. The aroma is caramel and wood hop. Toasty, nutty with patent malt (I think) and lots of hop dryness. Coffee notes from that malt. Not bad but I could do with more hop brightness and more complexity.

(trade from NYBeer) 22oz. bottle. Pours a nice frothy off-white head. Lots of carbonation. While this may look like a stout, the aroma leaves know doubt that it’s an IPA! Definitely hop character in the flavor, but it’s not of fresh hops, which is something I’m used to seeing with the Left Coast IPAs. Probably has something to do with the black roasted malts added to change the color to black. Light body. Lots of bitterness lingering on the palate in the aftertaste.

Dark brown, huge and foamy tan head. Slightly toasty malt, a bit of toast, then a nice hops finish that is more smooth than punchy.

Good solid brew from the blue point gang. Pours dark, tastes light. Good character, palate is slightly thin. Not the best black ipa, stone stone still holds that honor. In fact this isn’t blue point’s best ipa, hoptical illusion still holds that honor. This beer is definitely worth a try.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 beerbill (3044) - Laurel, New York, USA - OCT 1, 2010
22 oz. bottle. Pours cola color with a moderate tan head that lasted through three-quarters of the glass and left medium lace. Pleasant aroma of grassy hops, light pine, and some mild malt. The flavor is lightly roasted malt followed by a mild-moderate bite of hops bitterness that lingers briefly after the swallow. Medium bodied. A bit spritzy on the palate. No problems, but a little underwhelming.
