COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Toxic Sludge is our version of the relatively new Black IPA style. Care should be taken to not spill this heavy ale, as the results could be disastrous, so please consume BP Toxic Sludge responsibly. Hopped at four stages of the brewing process, we combined a hoppy India Pale Ale with a richer, darker malt base for a full bodied beer that’s big on flavor. This limited release, specialty brew was crafted to benefit birds affected by BP’s 2010 Gulf oil spill. 100% of the proceeds go to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research for their “Spreading Our Wings” campaign. Available only in draft and 22-ounce bottles – you can do more for the birds than drinking your share of Toxic Sludge, donate or buy a cool, limited edition BP Toxic Sludge “Save the Buffleheads” Tshirt: bptoxicsludge.com

16 oz. can from Top Shelf Brews. No date on the can anywhere. Dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the light. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and a strange fruit note. Taste is exactly like the nose. Yet the hops are not really bold at all. My other problem with this brew is the body. The texture and body is really on the thin side. And at 7 % I taste a hint of ABV. Damn, overall this really falls short of what I was expecting from Six Point.

Can shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Slightly transparent dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of piney hops, "green" notes and some roastiness. Bitter favor with hops, piney and a bit citric, some roastiness and a bit of coffee. Medium-bodied. Decent.

Pint-sized can from Tasty Beverage Co., Raleigh, NC. Dark brown pour with a frothy tan head. Cola-like sweet aroma at first with tangerine hops making their way through eventually. Citrusy hops are evident in the flavor and are certainly muted by cocoa and smoke from the malt. The mouthfeel is surprisingly thin for this style and certainly given the name. A decent black IPA.

(can - 16 oz) Dark brown with a thin off-white head. Mild hop and chocolate aroma. Bitter hop flavor with a lightly roasted followup. Smooth finish with a very lightly bitter aftertaste. A bit of chocolate and roasted malt at the tail end.

Pours a deep mahogany with a light creamy head (drank in Dogfish IPA glass). Strong floral notes dominate the initial nose but fade to roasty maltiness. Drinks like a medium-hopped IPA with a hint of sweet caramel. Not bad but it seems a bit out of balance to me. The bitterness lingers on the palate and it finishes with a crisp hit of citrus. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pleasantly grassy and also kind of nutty. Dark, reddish brown as opposed to black. Moderate bitter, finishes with a lasting chocolate-fruit sweetness. Much sweeter than many examples. Also has a smoother feel too it. A most approachable version of a dark IPA. Nice charitable tie in too.

Pour is darker brown with some amber shining through. Small tan head that quickly fades. Aroma is on the weaker side but with notes of caramel malts, milk chocolate, and grass. Flavor is licorice and pine needles. Weaker body and heavy carbonation.

Bottle. Dark brown-it is kind of sludgy looking- with big pillowy head. Smells sweet, almost like molasses plus a little lemon and maybe some anise and a faint hint at chocolate. More roast in the flavor. Still very sweet with a light dryness coming in at the finish.

Bottle at Chriso FullersGales tasting. Dark brown. Lasting beige. Smokey black ipa alright actually still suffers from some black ipa probs i.e. its a bit thin on the back end. Ok upfront but end fails
