COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Toxic Sludge is our version of the relatively new Black IPA style. Care should be taken to not spill this heavy ale, as the results could be disastrous, so please consume BP Toxic Sludge responsibly. Hopped at four stages of the brewing process, we combined a hoppy India Pale Ale with a richer, darker malt base for a full bodied beer that’s big on flavor. This limited release, specialty brew was crafted to benefit birds affected by BP’s 2010 Gulf oil spill. 100% of the proceeds go to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research for their “Spreading Our Wings” campaign. Available only in draft and 22-ounce bottles – you can do more for the birds than drinking your share of Toxic Sludge, donate or buy a cool, limited edition BP Toxic Sludge “Save the Buffleheads” Tshirt: bptoxicsludge.com

Ah the rotating taps of the Dutch.......Ale house that is. A lovely charcoal black IPA. Thick and lasting head. Nose of hops and thinner malts. body reveals a moderate wood tinged flavor that is twice overtaken by malts then settles to a longer finish of hop. Advertised as 7% and it will let you know such after two of these with dinner.

Draft. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Nutty and sweet malty aroma with floral and earthy hoppy notes. The flavor has nutty malts, hazelnut, light coffee, and light floral hops. Strikes me as more of a porter/stout than a Black IPA. Pretty good.

Bottle. Moderate toasted note for the malt, herbs and resin for the hops, light meaty note for the yeast with root vegetables, faint licorice, spice and dark dried fruit in the background. Head is large, frothy, light tan with good thick lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, a little slick with a lively carbonation. I liked the depth of this Black IPA, but it’s not so rich that it subtracts from it’s easy drinking quality.

On tap at Stagshead, despite the terrible name for this beer I really liked it. pours nice cola color, and tastes of hop bitterness, coffee, oatmeal, malt, grapefruits, and pine. one of better bluepoints

Bomber thanks to beerbill, pours dark brown with an amber hue and small khaki head. Aroma molasses, chocolate, roasted malts, and hops. Taste is bitter roasted malts and pine, with citrus, chocolate, and coffee. Bitterness of hops compliments the roasted malts very nicely, very drinkable.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark ruby colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and hints of pine needles. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, dark chocolate, some ashes and hints of pine needles and grapefruit in the finish. More than medium body, quite dry. Very nice.

Poured a deep mahogany color, almost black, with a very thick and frothy tan head. Aroma is smoke, coffee, resin, floral, herbs, and citrus. Taste is smoke, citrus, leather, caramel, toast, grass, and herbs with a bitter lingering finish. Really enjoyable.
