Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Winter Ale is a hearty and robust amber ale. Brewed to chase away the chill of a cool winter night. Made with Pale, Vienna, crystal and chocolate malt. This uncommon amber is only brewed during the cold months of the year. Winter Ale is an extremely popular seasonal specialty. Enjoy the tasty balance of malt and hops. Remember this special ale leaves with Winter.

From trade. Nice amber pour with small off-white head. Roasted malt, caramel, nutty and hint of pine needles on the nose. Flavor was caramel, toasted nuts, and matly. Nice texture with a hint of spice on the finish.

Dec. 2007 - Amber pour with nice head and excellent lacing. Weak aroma of soapy caramel. Flavor was rich, malty caramel with touch of nutty notes and full, rich body. Really pretty good. Nice hoppy twang at the back end. A pretty good amber ale.

bottle poured a medium amber in color with good steady carbonation and a one finger head diminishing to a thin layer. aroma has caramel malt, spice, and hops. taste has a malted body that is smooth. hops and spice lend a nice flavor, finishing with malt and spice. some bitterness creeps in but the sweetness keeps it in check. very easy drinking beer with good spice level that complements not overpowers.

Bottled, BB 04/07. First question.. why would you make your Winter Ale a 4.5% amber? Poured medium amber with plenty of very light sediment in there and a nice cap of creamy off-white head. The aroma picked up toasty caramel and darker raisiny fruits with light grass on the sides and mild oxidation.. this held up rather well. The flavor began with grainy caramel notes and light plum.. greener across the middle with some raw alcohol and toffee.. sweet finish of toffee and some alcohol. Lighter-bodied with a grainy texture and a little more booze than there probably should have been in there. OK, but when I’m thinking "winter", I want a porter/stout/english strong ale.

12oz thanks beastiefan2k - Aroma is toasted malts with a touch of hop spice. Pours transparent ruby red with a small head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is sticky. Not bad, but plain.
