3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 3-30-13-
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours light copper color with a thick two finger off white head. The head has a nice level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a caramel sweetness and a moderately strong toasted malt smell. Mixed with these aromas is a bit of a nutty and alcohol smell, producing a rather warming smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a flavor of a caramel sweetness mixed with toasted malt. As the taste moves forward, it sweetness further with toffee like flavors hitting the tongue as well as a bit of nuttiness. About this time some flavors of a light bitter hop of a more herbal/grassy nature meet the tongue. The mainly sweeter and toasted malty flavors take the taste to its end where they are joined by flavors of a light alcohol, some oak, and as well as a light spice of nutmeg and cinnamon. In the end with the advent of the spice, oak, alcohol and hop, the tongue is left with a warmingly sweet and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is slightly creamier then average with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both the lower carbonation and thicker body suit well the warming, light nut, hop, and spice flavors of the brew quite well and make for a nice slow drinker.
Overall – A somewhat complex winter warmer style with a rather nice blend of spice, nut/oak, hop, and sweet malty flavors. It is a rather enjoyable brew to drink.

A pretty basic winter ale. Mellow overall, but with a pleasant roasted sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Dan’s. The pour is a slightly amber-ish gold with a filmy amount of lingering head and some awesome clingy lace. The aroma has a nice hop character to it and there isn’t a whole lot else going on, but it’s surprising for an amber. There is a good caramel maltiness that shows up, but it’s well hidden. The flavor takes on more of the butter maltiness with it, which it somewhat anticipated, and well executed. The hops are nicely solid throughout the taste. The mouth feel is thinner, but clings well to the palate and offers an enjoyable, bitter aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/17/2012. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a good bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice English amber ale, more of a winter warmer in my opinion. All around good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt, fruit yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, screw top. Nose lightly malty and dusty, not too sweet but with some mild toasted edges and caramel twang. Pours a really nice dark amber/copper with dense sudsy beige head. Taste sweet with very low bitterness but a toasty, bready finish into the aftertaste, some nice chewy caramel with traditional hops. Strikes a great balance between malt and hops. Medium body hides alcohol well, lightly crisp, smooth without being soft (on account of light tang). Actually reminds a lot of Sam Adams, though this has mild fruity and nutty accents that render it an improvement. Enjoyed!

Pours dark copper color with a decent tan head. Aroma of malts, can’t discern anything specific. Tastes sweet and malty with a slight hop backbone. Mild chocolate flavor is apparent. Goes well with brownies. Decent beer, would drink again.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 fl oz bottle from Potsdam NY, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear deep copper with a nice tan head.
Aroma: Rich maltiness, dark dried fruits, bread crust, melanoidin, toffee/caramel notes, somewhat vinous, brighter fruitiness, a touch of butterscotch, a little Sherry-like oxidation.
Palate: Medium+ body, fairly full effervescence.
Flav.: Lots of toffee and brown sugar, tastes like those Halloween kisses, dark bread crust, quite malty and delicious; dry with some bitterness and a very malty, deep toffee, slightly boozy finish.
This is a great winter beer. I drank it in May and also enjoyed it.

Amber in colour, malty nose. The beer starts malty and roasted dry. Very smooth. The mainpart continues very smooth, roasted dry with a subtle malty sweetness. Ver well balanced. The aftertaste is smooth, roasted-dry, malty and not too sweet.
