Poured medium amber with plenty of very light sediment in there and a nice cap of creamy off-white head. The aroma picked up toasty caramel and darker raisiny fruits with light grass on the sides and mild oxidation.. this held up rather well. The flavor began with grainy caramel notes and light plum.. greener across the middle with some raw alcohol and toffee.. sweet finish of toffee and some alcohol. Lighter-bodied with a grainy texture and a little more booze than there probably should have been in there. OK, but when I’m thinking "winter", I want a porter/stout/english strong ale. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Pours clear deep copper with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, hops, some fruit. Tastes caramel malty, with some hopcitrus and slight tropical fruit. This one is akin to a very watered down Loose Cannon/Winter Storm hybrid. vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Pours copper-brown with a persistent off-white head. Lots of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. The aroma is vert faint, mostly grainy malt. The taste is lightly toasted malt with a nice balance of bitter hops. Mouthfeel is carbonated and drying. There’s a light lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. This is a quite decent amber amber, however there is neither a high enough (warming) ABV or winter-type spices to explain the "Winter" label. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2008 A very average amber ale. Aroma was so so. Caramel malt with just a hint of hoppiness. Pour was a nice deep amver with a thin off white ring for a head that left quickly. Taste was a little weak. Mostly caramel malt with just a bit of hops to balance it out.The malt leaves a toasty feeling in the back of the throat. Not a terrible beer but with a name like "winter ale" I was expecting more heartiness. This would be better in the summer. Ron (1013), Rochester, New York, USA

Sweet malty aroma with caramel and alittle pepper. The beer has a malty flavor with mild acidity and then a dry lightly bittered finish. sliffy (1967), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 22, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours clear copper with big cream-colored head. The aroma is obvious caramel malt, along with some woody spiciness. The flavor is spicier than I was expecting, with pepper and some earthy yeast tones. Then comes the caramel malt and a tannic iced-tea type wood flavor. It finishes on a dry note. Meh.
