TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 29, 2007 12 oz bottle. Clear amber with a pocked whitish head. Raisin and berries, some nutmeg; overall fairly mild. Sharp, medium carb with an oily, medium light body. Very nice caramel toffee to start. Bready grapefruit peel provides a good bitter counter but lingers too long. Ends with pine resin and a metallic clench. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Oct 24, 2007 I really enjoyed this beer. A sweet malty flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Alcohol is present when it warms. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle courtesy of goldtwins. Pours a clear reddish-brown with small, flaky floaties and a creamy beige head. The aroma is sweet, malty, milk chocolate and spicy fruitcake. Medium-bodied and slick with a lightly dry and bitter finish. Sweat roasted malt, spice/fruit cake and chocolate conclude with a lightly dry sweet/spicy finish. A nice spiced holiday ale. Why this is classified as an amber is beyond me. Thanks for sending this one Larry! RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 15, 2007 My first cask beer and also had it during my first visit to Spuyten Duyvil in Brooklyn as well.
Pours a slightly clouded dark ruby brown with a thick tan head. Nose is fruity sweet with a sugary presence. Taste is a firm hop presence, but not overpowering. Nice wood flavor that is easy going and not overdone. Feel is smooth and silky. Goes down oh so smooth. Highly drinkable off the cask and well worthy of losing my cask virginity to, apparently. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 04/05/2006

SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 18, 2007 In the bottle at Clint’s basement bar warming party. Pours a dark brownish amber with a medium off white head. Pronounced chocolate malted milk aroma. Flavor is filled with chocolate malt taste and is fairly sweet, but lacks any significant roastedness. I was surprised in that I could not detect any spices at all, so I guess that not all winter beers have to be spiced. I’m not sure what makes it a winter beer though. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Aug 17, 2007 Tap @ House of Brews, NYC. I gave this beer a second chance because the first time I had it right after Delirium Noel. That clearly biased my taste buds. Anyway, pours a deep reddish-brown with a fluffy white to tan head. Aroma was somewhat malty with a slight roasted characteristic. Taste was the same with only the most vague hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Not bad, but not a keeper either. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Jul 8, 2007 12 oz bottle. Not much going on here. Poured a good looking deep dark chestnut brown with red highlights around the edges and a good size frothy head. Aroma started off a little weak but improved some upon warming, or is the hottning since I was drinking this outside on a 90 degree day. Aroma was malt dominant with a slight bit of sweetness that had almost completely disappeared. Creamy mouthfeel and the flavor had a hint of spices that may have faded from the bottle just like my faded dreams of the girl in the red dress. Why am I drinking a Winter Ale in the middel of July anyway??
