Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Winter Ale is a hearty and robust amber ale. Brewed to chase away the chill of a cool winter night. Made with Pale, Vienna, crystal and chocolate malt. This uncommon amber is only brewed during the cold months of the year. Winter Ale is an extremely popular seasonal specialty. Enjoy the tasty balance of malt and hops. Bottle (12oz). Deep clear amber with a smallish beige diminishing head. Mild aroma of slightly sour malt, hints of hops and fruit, light chocolate emerges as it warms, but it’s seems a little off. Taste isn’t bad - slightly candyish malt with a chocolate milkshake character, a hint of peat to counter the sweetness - like a slightly spicy brown ale. Mouthfeel is ever so slightly syrupy, flat, extremely watery. Not really bad, but a bit of a miss, I’m afraid.

Dark amber body with a small white head. Muted hops and malt in the aroma., not much there. Mild hoppy bitterness with ambiguous citrus and resin. Average palate. Undistinguished.

Bottle. Pours a garnet body with a tan head. Sweet malty caramel body, a bit thin and watery at that. Some light hoppy spicy notes and earthy rye bitterness to finish.

Cask at KClinger’s. Deep, dark red with an ice-creamy, frothy head. Has that silky cas feel. Oddly bitter, almost like an unripe pear. Bit of a caramel nectar as a base, but the woody bitterness doesn’t match well. (#2652, 1/14/07)

Very nice red color with a light tan head which lingers for a while. Nice malty background with lots of hops to balance it out. Aroma is has more english hop aroma similar to a nice esb. Would have been better with more alcohol to make it a better winter beer.

Amber color with a nice creamy offwhite head. Malty aroma, some hops, a bit creamy. Flavor is bitter, but also brings malts and nuts.

Bottle shared with GregClow, tupalev & jerc -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear dark amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Very mild, fairly well balanced aroma of sweet malt and hops. Ridiculously mild flavour follows the aroma and adds a bit of spice and fruit but just isn’t that good. Medium bodied. Just plain average.

Thanks to weeare138. Pours a rusty orange amber with a small off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, picking up some lighter hops. Flavors of the same. Nothing too breakthrough but a middle of the road Amber Ale.
