COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blue Point Brewing's Winter Ale is a hearty and robust amber ale. Brewed to chase away the chill of a cool winter night. Made with Pale, Vienna, crystal and chocolate malt. This uncommon amber is only brewed during the cold months of the year. Winter Ale is an extremely popular seasonal specialty. Enjoy the tasty balance of malt and hops. Remember this special ale leaves with Winter.

Blue point winter ale. Isn’t it something, when you buy some of these beers, you have no idea of exactly what you’re getting? Winter ale? Could be anything. Looking at RB site, this is amber ale. 12 oz brown bottle. Beery aroma when you pop the cap. Does have some hop smell in there. The pour is darker than your typical pale yellow beer, it is brownish but not dark. There is a froth on top that is white to alabaster in color. Now I think it smells something like a strong ale. I see I have not rated many amber ales. The first flavor hint is that of a medium bitter malty hop. After each sip there is a rise of bubbles. Medium bitterness bite continues but does not build. The flavor of this is on par with Erie Brewing Mad Anthonys Ale and Mendocino Red Tail Ale. However, it does not have the palate of Great Divide Ridgeline Amber Ale (Arapahoe Amber). As I recall, the ridgeline is more enjoyable without the bitterness and lack of carbonation. The finish is medium bitterness and it does linger for awhile but it is not as oppressive as your typical pale ale medicine quality. However, it does let you know that you drank a hoppy malty beer, very little if any roasty qualities.

Shared by turdfergson. Clean coppery pour with one finger of sandy tan head. Nose is malt forward, notes of toasted cereal grain and Vienna malt, caramel and diacetyl coming through. Herbal hop character. Pretty straight forward flavor, leafy and herbal bitterness. Caramel malts and a bready character. Medium body. Meh

Bottle from Sam’s. Cloudy amber with a thick yellow white head. Nose is cat piss, lemon, granny smith apples, mint, other herbs and spices, . Kinda creamy, mouthfeel, heavier than expected. Flavor is light banana, graham cracker, pineapple. Weird combination of flavors that’s a tad messy. KInd of a chalky, lightly bitter mouthfeel. Weird beer. Tastes kind of numb if that makes any sense.

(12oz bottle thanks to Fratto) clear medium amber with wispy tan bubbles. Nose of vienna malt, medium sweet malt, bit of weird dried fruit flavors. Taste of dried fruit, cranberry, sweetish malt, and a touch of alcohol.

Growler fill from 9th Ave Vintner. Pours into goblet a rusty red bordering on brown. Not a lot of head. Aroma is sugary maple syrup. Palate is noticeably sweet with decent carbonation in the mouthfeel. Earthy, spicy and vegetable notes and major malty notes. Grainy early on. Still a very light mouthfeel and very much winter. Decent.

Very solid amber ale offering from Blue Point. Definitely had a reddish brown hue and a nice off-white medium head. Hop notes were nice and balanced well with the maltiness of the beer.

Bottle from Liz. Pours ruddy copper with a 3 finger creamy beige head. Aroma of mild roast malt with hints of spice. Flavor is sweet, lightly sweet, roast malt with very interesting chocolate and mild spice aspects. But it’s not an over the top sort of thing.

A straight ahead amber on tap at MacGregors. There is really nothing I can say about this. It was amber. Palate has a bit of a cola flavor, boring but drinkable.
