3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This one didnít look or smell impressive. The head was weak (lacing decent) for a porter. The color was red-black, but not pitch dark. The flavor was mostly coffee with some chocolate and licorice detectable. Nice mouthfeel and very drinkable. I donít know, I really liked this one, despite the fact the numbers are pretty standard for a porter. Enjoyable, but not a stand out.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with some toasted doughy notes. Body starts slightly thinner for the style but has a nice dark caramely sweetness and some earthy doughy milk chocolate flavor toward a slightly drier finish. A pretty good and quite drinkable porter.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Feb. 2006 - This was just "aight" for me, man (Iíve been watching American Idol). There was nothing wrong with it (asides from maybe being a tad overly licoricy sweet), but nothing to remember it by. Average head and little lacing...dark ruby brown. Smelled a lot drier than it was. Coffee tastes start of strong, but the sweet licoricy flavor (which I just donít really like) finished strong. I had this while my dad had a Victory Moonglow Weizenbock...he got the better end of the deal.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle, unmarked best before date in the lower right hand corner of label, sampled in a pint glass.
Poured a chocolate brown with an compact creamy tan head, decent retention, minimal amount of ringed sticking.
A simple nose of sweet milk chocolate, a touch of citric fruitiness and hints of caramel.
Smooth, if not a tad watery, medium bodied mouthfeel, there is ample carbonation, but without much in the way in crispness. Lightly roasted malty tastes, milk chocolate again, and a slightly astringent grainy coffee at the end. Softly citric hops that get lost in the finish. The finish has too much of watery cold coffee taste, this is where the lack of crispness really comes into play.
A budget priced porter, average at best, will do in a pinch.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 4, 2008 Bottle: an extra courtesy of slob via trade. I had not consmed any Blue Ridge from Frederick since I was back in training with the USDA. A group had gone for the Saturday tour and we were subsequently invited to their Company Christmas party since we didnít leave after the tour was over.....friendly bartenders. This may be one of the close to perfect porters in the world. Smooth and big in body. Aroma of chocolate and dark caramel malts that fill the room. Dark brown to black in the glass with mobile windows of brown thru the glass. A big chocolate body that is not interfered by black malts or overdone hops. Send More!

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle (from Stateline). Big bubbly head that settled quick. Some roastiness in the aroma but it doesnít last long. Body is thin and thereís some dms in the aroma and flavor. Other than that, thereís a 1% chocolate milk flavor. The good thing about this beer is that ití s not sour. The bad thing is that itís not very drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
POur is a nice black with a tan head. Aroma is very nice with a lot of roasted malt and dark chocolate coming out. Flavor is much of the same. Some roasted malts with a nice heavy dose of chocolate. Smooth and easy to drink makes this a above average porter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. Dark brown but not quite opaque. Finger width of beige head. Caramel and cocoa with chocolate and red fruit aromas. Medium bodied with a sweet initial roasty flavor. Nice coffee acidic middle. Finish is off=dry with a slightly cloying acid flavor. Short lived piney hop flavor. Not too bad.
