Warm overtones. Nutty malty flavor. Not strong alcohol wise. Smooth for a winter ale

ROGUE (1360) - Newark, Delaware, USA - FEB 15, 2010
12oz bottle. The beer pours a deep ruby red with a thick frothy of fwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. Aroma is malty with chocolate, nuts and a bit of tart fruitiness. Light nutty and caramel flavors, medium bodied with mild carbonation, nice creamy and smooth mouthfeel, finishes kind of sweet, alcohol well hidden until it warms.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2009 Overall Impression: I’ve had this one a few times. I like it, but it’s not so memorable that I can really give it a proper rating after not drinking for at least a year...We’ll call it a 3-3.5 for now and split the difference.

Jan. 2007 - Beer poured a beauty brownish red, nice head and lacing all over the glass. Aroma is virtually nil. The flavor is very malty with roasties, caramel...but very faint. Just not rich enough, but still somewhat enjoyable. Excellent smooth mouthfeel...almost like a fine stout on nitrogen,

Bottle. Clear copper with a small head. Aroma of grains, caramel with just a bit of dark fruit. Tastes of caramel, some toffee and a bit of prunes. Medium body. Not bad for a winter beer, but it could have a touch more ’kick’ to it.

nhorween (644) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 4, 2007
Bottle. Oily brown pour with little head. Malty, plain nose. Flavor is way off for me - tastes like chemicals (chlorine and peroxide). Abrupt water finish.

EithCubes (3339) - GERMANY - JAN 2, 2007
Bottle. Sweet and only lightly malty aroma of fruit and caramel with a healthy dose of dry nuts. Amber pour with a short but stable tan head. Very dry taste, wood and nuts give way to caramel and light roast vanilla bean. Faint dark chocolate. Bg note which I can’t place, somehow reminds of rice. Medium-full body is smoooooooth and loaded with waves of malt, complex interplay of what is likely four or five varieties of malt. Gives the impression of being much more decadent than it really is. Rounded and a rather nice surprise!
