This was the next best beer, other than the stout. This one hits all the right notes of what I love about this style. The balance of sweet and bitter hops, with just enough bite, and a sweet malt backbone, with just a hint of toffee. Very nicely done and would drink another glass.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy dark copper color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee malts, floral, earthy hops. The taste is toffee malts, nutty notes with an herbal hop finish. Medium bodied, decent but maybe a little too bitter.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 Has a nice caramel malty aroma. Pours a beautiful clear crimson red with off white lacing. This is a nice warmer weather beer and goes down smooth with no off putting flavors.

Very boring. Mostly watery, with some toasty malts. Lightly sweet in the taste and finish. No body at all. Needs more ingredients.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours dark copper with offwhite head. The aroma is weak, earthy hops and dusty caramel. The flavor is sweet caramel and toast with some dusty bitterness. Bland, but OK.

On tap at the brewpub 2/1/08: Pours a dark copper with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of some resiny piny hops and toasted sweet caramel malt. Body starts fairly full and semi-sweet with some earthy piny bittering hop presence. Finishes crisp and bittersweet, a nice ESB.

Pours a copper color with a medium sized off-white bar poured head. I thought this had a nice amount of flavor for a relatively low abv beer. Roasted malts, overall this was toasty, with some complimenting bitter citrus hops. Pretty well rounded and overall a solid choice.

light and mild complexity, served well on a hot day and a sessionable in between at brewgras, but nothing big on the complexity.

Amber pour, little cream head that disappated quickly. Faint smokey/tea aroma? Some caramel, citrus, but mostly burnt malt, almost like a smoke ale to me. Like somebody burnt the biscuits. Rather light bodied. Did not care for this one at all.
