330ml bottle (BB 22/12/10). The Blue Sky brewery in Cairns is expanding. It now has a presence at Cairns Airport and 3 of it’s beers are now sold through national liquor outlets. This beer is a limited edition brewers reserve only available at the Cairns brewery-tap. The pour is translucent dark amber with a small transient white head and heavy large particles at the bottom. The nose and taste is simple sweet grainy malts without the expected features classically associated with hefeweizens. There is, however, a definite subtle smoky presence on the mid palate which is quite distinctive and enjoyable. The finish is sweet with that slight smoky bacon flavour lingering. It is medium bodied with a lowish carbonation. Definitely not a wheat beer but still pleasant and drinkable. Nice to see someone having a go.

Keg. Strong smoky aroma, flavour. Light body. Cloudy. Smokiness a bit overpowering.

This was pretty good. Lots of banana and clove with a fairly light smoked finish. Fairly milding for the style, but still enjoyable and highly drinkable. Well done.
