I was skeptical of trying this beer, because Blue Star also brews a pilsner but they tell visitors that this is their lightest beer. The aroma is sort of grassy with discernible hops. The malt flavors are surprisingly sophisticated and the beer is well balanced. By no means heavy or hoppy but it has substance. It is a good beer for refreshing oneself from the Texas heat.

chinchill (1759) - South Carolina, USA - JUN 24, 2014
On tap at the brewpub in San Antonio. Appearance: Pours golden-amber with a small, short-lived head. Feel: Light body and near medium carbonation. Slightly watery, Flavor: OK balance. Light-roasted grain flavor with a complementary touch of hops. More durable aftertaste than expected. O: Certainly not a bad version, but this is a style I seldom like much.

ben4321 (3849) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 24, 2014
Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 1/23/14

Aroma: The nose is light, some grains, malts, and a little corn
Appearance: Pours a light, golden color, with a small head and minimal lace
Flavor: The taste is light and malt/grainy, fairly on-style
Palate: The body is light, it drinks decently, and finishes clean enough
Overall Impression: There’s certainly nothing wrong with this one, but it’s just not all that exciting either. Good for the light lager drinking crowd to have something to drink at a brewpub I guess.

On tap at the brewpub. The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is full of grain and grass notes, about what I expect from a beer that is designed to compete with Mexican lagers. The flavor is better than the aroma. I get the same grain and grass notes as in the aroma, as well as some light orange citrus notes. There is also some yeast in the flavor. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Golden-clear with no head. A fruiter flavored lager with hints of banana in the aroma.
