2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 phaleslu (3534) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 12, 2010
Draft sample at the St. Matthews brewery. Pours a clear amber color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of caramel malts, yeast, spices, graham cracker, and floral notes. Flavor is also malty, with caramel, pale, and chocolate malt notes, along with sourdough bread, cardboard, and grass. Light-medium bodied with below average carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Finishes with a bit of spice to complement the malts. Not my favorite style, and not really exciting.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JK (3505) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 12, 2006
My thanks to Kevin for this beer. This is good. Aroma has nuts, caramel, and toast. Light amber color, though the roasted character in the flavor makes this more of an alt than a amber ale. Very light hops, and lots of roasted, dry grain. Dry finish.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 maniac (3474) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - SEP 28, 2007
Slightly hazy amber body with a small creamy light tan head. Sweet slightly fruity but grainy aroma. Sweet flavor with some caramel and grassy hops.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 kramer (3454) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2006
12 oz bottle, via Kevin. Pours a clear dark copper colored body under a small fizzy beige head. Moderate visible carbonation. Aroma is slightly grainy with some light caramel and a light fruitiness. Flavor is fairly thin with some cookie and cereal maltiness. A light bitterness emerges in the finish. Mouthfeel is thinnish with moderate fizzy carbonation, just shy of a creamy texture. Overall, not too thrilled with this one, a little too light in the flavor department.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3386) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 6, 2008
This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was sour, tangy and vegetal. The flavor was sour, tangy, malty and lightly vegetal with a touch of a fruity undertone. The finish was long and sour. Eh.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 EithCubes (3337) - GERMANY - MAR 3, 2008
Bottle. Finally got my hands on a fresh one. Sticky malt nose, dusty nutty aroma with roasted grain and resiny toffee and caramel. Some chocolate, as well. Clear, dark copper pour with a dense, rocky off-white head. Taste is lightly bitter and sweet, a smack of texture quickly drying to a nutty main. A dash of roasted malt with cookie dough and bread. Much more caramel and even a little butterscotch. Herbal spicy. Light body, crisp feel with a dry grassy ending (resembling other breweries’ Nut Browns, and even this brewery’s, which is much better). Not so much an Altbier as a cross between an American Amber and Brown.

Bottle from fellow Dark Brotherhood Of Kevin, member uh, Kevin Danke!
Pours a thick, lush amber... almost like sap in the glass. Aroma is Cheerios. No kidding. Just like sniffin’ a new bag of the toasted oat cereal that bears that name. Flavor is like a weird watered down apricot with a spiky hop finish. Malt is in there smoewhere, but the weirdness of the taste seems to jumble it up too much. Second sip seems much more balanced. More hops detected. Okay, now this stuff has turned to water...
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hotstuff (3249) - Indiana, USA - AUG 10, 2003
This beer had a medium sized ivory head with fine-small bubbles. The body was very murky and there was carbonation observed. The hue was dark orange and the lacing was good. The nose was malty and hoppy. The flavor was bitter and it had an aftertaste to it.The mouthfeel was tingly, smooth, thin and light bodied.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - JAN 27, 2004
Gold color with absolutly no head. Medium amount of lacing. Very mellow aroma. Taste is some sort of crappy bitter malt.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Nuffield (3087) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 31, 2006
Plain malty beer. This is to Alt what R.C. Cola is to Coca-Cola...a cheap immitation. A little flat, a little metallic, a little caramelly. But not much of anything. Thanks Kevin for bringing the bottle from Kentucky.
