COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Altbier, literally translated as “Old Style” beer, is a classic German ale. BBC Altbier is brewed with additions of Munich, wheat, caramel, and chocolate malts creating a delicate, but flavorful malt profile. This delicious amber colored session beer is balanced with additions of tradtional spicy German hops creating a light and floral bouquet to compliment its complex malt profile.

Dark copper color...pillowy head, though it fades quickly. Extremely subtle malt aroma, with just a touch of sweetness. Mild malt flavor up front...crisp mouthfeel. Back has a slight bitterness to it...finish is mellow, yet a tad sweet. Probably not one that I would crave a six pack of, though it is very drinkable, and definitely preferred over the average commercial swill.

Got this on draft on a recent trip to Louisville, KY Copper colored, not much head. Malt is the predominate flavor. Bitter aftertaste. Not very distinguished.

The aroma is OK. Bread, yeast. Flavor is malty and watery. Very thin feel. Bad after taste. Not too good.

Almost undrinkable. Lots of Budweiser/Miller taste in this one. But fairly stale. One of the worst alts I’ve had. Little to no malt. Not much taste.

Bottle. Not a very special beer, but better than mass market. Bit of a nutty flavor, not over the top. I probably won’t return to this one.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with OhioDad, thanks Scott!) Best before October, 2005, so this is being consumed a few weeks late. Self described as a "German Style Amber Ale", I’m really not picking up anything in particular that makes me think "Altbier". Light pale and grainy malts join with a modest fruitiness, some grassiness and a moderate bitterness, but the fairly prominent sour citric flavor isn’t making for an especially enjoyable beer here. In fact, the sourness is even more apparent in the nose and is not pleasant at all. The body is light-medium, the mouthfeel is chalky, and the palate is fairly clean, but the sourness doesn’t make for a pleasant aftertaste. Golden orange body is fairly hazy and topped by a small and short-lived off-white head that eventually dissipates fully. Not good at all, and if the sourness is the result of not being fresh, I doubt this beer suddently fell apart in a few weeks.

Bottle. Sweet brown sugar and apple aroma with a faint odd chemical smell. Hazy amber with a moderate fizzy head. Malty with an underlying petroleum flavor. Medium body and carbonation.

Funky nasty malt smell. English malt flavor, weak bite. Grassy hop finish. Doggy dog.

Clear amber pour, low head, no lace. Sour corny aroma. Corny metallic taste, nicely carbed though. A little bit of nutty flavor. Pretty gross all the way around. Yuck.

Terrible stuff. Why bother making beer if you can not make decent beer. This got bottled?? How did this make it passed QC? It was not a spoiled beer, just sucked whale ass.
