An American standard, BBC APA is a full bodied and heavily hopped American Ale. It is copper in color and brewed with a blend of pale and crystal malts, balancing the citrus and pine flavors from large doses of American and English hops to create a very drinkable, hoppy ale. BBC APA is a hophead’s dream!

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Nice aromas of floral hops, citrus and resin with some malt in there as well. Fairly well-balanced between caramel malt and bitter hops on the palate. Biscuity malt flavors appear is it comes to room temperature. Nice bitter finish.

12oz bottle. It took more than 20 minutes, one foam-over, and four different attempts to pour this beer. The head never diminished, it just got chewed. Aroma is all hop resin and just enough malt sweetness to pull it together. The flavor is cloying hop resin. Absolutely no balance. Nothing I would drink again.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2014 Tap @ Bluegrass: Burnt amber body with a somewhat lazy, slightly soapy white collar buffeted on top. White pepper covered grapefruit peels & a big citrus rind essence, smells quite bitter & floral. Very similar to the Atta Boy IPA, actually. Mild toasted cracker malt. Zesty bitterness all across the palate. More bitter grapefruit pith, more citrus peel, more herbal bitterness. Slightly floral & botanical finish with a hint of toasted malt.

Aroma is citrus, fruit and bitter/ESB-like. The flavor is citrus, fruit, biscuit/English malts, a small hint of hop resin and a very dry/tart/tangy finish. Similar to Honkers Ale, never a bad thing about that.

Bottle. Very dark amber color, tan head. Aroma of floral pine, caramel biscuit. And someone wrote "morning breath" in my notebook, but it’s not my handwriting, so I won’t count it in the score. Taste is very bitter caramel.

Never have been a big fan of BBC beer. Probably should be since I live here but in general I prefer other breweries.

Nonic pint draft at the Bluegrass tap room on East Main Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The pour is a clear golden copper with a one inch well formed white head. The aroma is a dusty floral with a bit of cracker malt. The taste is cracker malt forward followed by the dry floral bitter hops. A bit of dirt shows in the taste as it warms. The palate is medium to light bodied with soft carbonation and the dry softly bitter finish. Tasty enough Pale Ale.

Draft pour at the source. Pours a clear copper with a white head of foam. Grassy, herbs, lemon zest, and green tea are in the aroma. Bitter tea like taste. Medium body and medium carbonation.

(backlog recollected in abstinence) Tap tasting flight, @source downtown pub 09/2012. Middling star of the tasting flight: an easy-drinking, mellow when thirsty APA with a slow attack and fast finish, delivering pleasant floral and minor citric notes on a slightly soggy cereal palate. Thank god for tasting shorthand, as this would have evaporated into oblivion along with many other US brewpub 2-week concoctions (thin palates, most of them).
