COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American standard, BBC APA is a full bodied and heavily hopped American Ale. It is copper in color and brewed with a blend of pale and crystal malts, balancing the citrus and pine flavors from large doses of American and English hops to create a very drinkable, hoppy ale. BBC APA is a hophead’s dream!

Pours a bronze amber with a thick lacy white head. Aroma is mostly blooming with hops. Body starts with a smooth malty sweetness, but becomes more bitter and overpowered by the hops by the finish. A decent APA, but could use some more balance and refinement.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2011 Nice juicy and fruity hops all over this one. Grapefruit and tart doughy tangerines with a crisp, and fresh, juicy flavor... very nice bitterness, wonderfully grassy fresh hop cones everywhere. Pretty much what an APA is supposed to be about, very well-crafted.

My Bottom Line:
This quaffable American Pale Ale develops a perfumy, spicy and citrusy hop intensity balanced out by lightly biscuity, caramelized cereals for a very approachable example of the style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the veiled amber.
-The finishing hop bitterness is spicy and quite leafy.
-The mouthfeel is lean and rather bubbly.
-The flavor profile is balanced, but not necessarily memorable.

Bottle; best before May ’09.

Bottle from Squire’s. Pours turbid orangy coppery with nose of bready pale malt, hopcitrus, grapefruit, and tangerine. Tastes bready malty, hoppy, with notes of citrus, slight florals, funk, and tropical fruit. Needs a tad more malt to become elite, but I’d drink this again with no qualms.

12 ounce bottle from Market Street Wineshop Downtown Charlottesville. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing on the poor side. Sticky and toffeeish aroma with earthy citrus malt notes. Taste is bitter hops with earthy malt notes. Medium bodied.

Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells citrussy and spicy. Tastes earthy and sweet with some resiny hints on the finish.

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. This APA was much better than I was expecting. A great example of a microbrew APA, this is exactly how I would make it! Thick head over a dark amber body. Nice bittering effect and good finish.

Bottle. Flowery hops and cherry malt aroma. Reddish tan color with ample head. Sweet cherry malt flavor with strong hops finish - moderate carbonation - a heavily hopped beer - not one for those that don’t like a hops bitterness.

In short: A heavy/dirty APA with a resinous and citrusy hopping. Decent beer even if not refreshing
How: Bottles 12oz. Tasting session with Montreal crew. Age unknown but probably fresh.
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is resinous and citrusy. Body is rather fluffy/yeasty for the genre. An overall (not unpleasant) dirty feeling. Dirty caramel malt backbone. Resinous and citrusy hops. A wood juice/wood sap flavour. This is a tasty brew but this is not a refreshing APA that I would drink in large quantities, to the contrary it feels a bit heavy and sticky. Another nice brew from this Kentucky brewery, the state with five million people and fifteen last names.
