On tap at brewery. Dark brown with almost no head. Malt chocolate and light bourbon aroma. Tastes of roasted grain caramel mild bourbon and a hint of roasted coconut with an oily palate.

Poured into a pint glass. Right on the heels of Backwoods Bastard so I’m in a bourbon laced session.
Aroma is bourbony but also there is some char. Appearance is black with almost no head to speak of.
Taste is not what I like. I am pairing this with fresh chocolate chip cookies and it’s still exceedingly bitter, chalky and dry. I’m getting nutty, coffee, and charred barrel flavors.
Not really a strong bourbon taste like some others. It’s just a hint.
The stout really overwhelms and in this case, not in a good way.
RIYL dry, bitter stouts.

Sample from growler. Pours very dark brown with a small dense tan head. The aroma is moderate roasted malt, mild bourbon, char, with an oatmeal sweetness. The flavor is moderate bourbon, roasted malt, black coffee, vanilla, char and hints of chocolate. Maybe a touch soft for the barrel to provide its full effect. More body could do wonders for this.

Great bourbon chocolate and vanilla aroma. Dark black color. Deep tan
head doesn’t last long. Chocolatey and vanilla flavor with just a
little bitterness. Velvety texture. Great desert beverage.

Pours near black with a tan colored head. Aroma is full of bourbon, with a little bit of roastiness coming through. Flavor is a nice roasty, chocolaty stout, but the big bourbon finish kind of messes it up for me.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 shigadeyo (2394) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - NOV 20, 2009
11/20/2009: Bluegrass Bourbon Barrel Oatmeal Stout .. Aroma: Some roasted malt, soft bourbon, wet barrel char; something weird about the aroma that I can’t place (almost like this was an older barrel or something). Appearance: Typical near-black, opaque color with a brown-colored, dense, and lasting crown. Flavor: The oatmeal is evident in the front followed by some coffee-like bitterness, sweet bourbon, barrel char; hints of licorice, semi-sweet and dark chocolates, and aging coffee grounds; the bourbon really comes through in the finish as the beer warms a little; when much warmer the flavor/finish is more like Irish Cream Liqueur. Palate: Full-bodied; mellow; extremely creamy texture. Overall: There is necessarily nothing wrong with this beer, but it is a bit underwhelming overall; nothing really stands out as unique causing this beer to fade into the blackhole of memory to be quickly forgotten shortly after the last swallow. On a side note, I don’t believe that the alcohol content is extremely high (somewhere around 6.5%?) making this a very easy to drink, sessionable, barrel-aged beer.
Partial growler fill (draught) from Party Town in Florence, Kentucky. Rating #1 for this beer. Score: 6/4/7/4/13 = 3.4
