3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours an opaque black with small tan head leaving moderate lacing. Aroma up front is of sweet bourbon, oak roasted malt, espresso, hint of dark cherry. A little sweet, a little boozy. Medium body, slightly sticky mouthfeel. lightly bittersweet finish. This is surprisingly not a heavy beer, which is actually what I would hope for in my stouts. Starts out very solid, but the finish is not incredibly strong.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Fordís Fish Shack in South Riding and served in a small snifter. The beer is a dark brown thatís nearly opaque, but shows some cola highlights when held to the lamp. Minimal head once it got to the table which settled to a sheen. Clearly a barrel aged beer from the aroma which is deep with vanilla and oak. There are roasted malt, molasses, and char notes as well. Taste is not exciting and leads off watery. It is moderately sweet with vanilla, molasses, and a dusting of cocoa. It is also moderately bitter on the finish with espresso, oak, char, and roasted malt flavors. A weak medium body, thin texture, moderate carbonation, and a sweet woody finish.

Small tan head, short lived but with fair lacing. Black color. Faint bourbony notes in the nose. Thin bodied, soft carbo. Faint bourbon flavors, roast. Lightly sweet malts, roast. Dry, bland finish. No body home! Props to neohippie2 for the bottle.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2014 Very dark color with almost no head. Definite smell of bourbon, chocolate and vanilla. Almost a Port wine aroma mixed in as well. Wood, bourbon, sweet taste, lite chocolate with good carbonation. This is a medium bourbon taste well balanced and I enjoyed this brew. A great beer

Poured a thin white head. Great nose of oak and light bourbon. Tasted it and all my hopes were dashed. Extremely thin with slight vanilla and raisin.

12 oz bottle. The nose is of vanilla and malt. The flavor though is very light and thin. Slight coffee and oak flavor. Definitely not the type of stout Iím used to.

12oz bottle from Roof Brothers in Paducah, via ck1. Thanks bro! Pours black with a foamy brown head leaving some lacing. Aroma has cocoa, vanilla, molasses and some grape. Taste is of light sweet choc, light grape, caramel and faint oak. Medium bodied, dry and somewhat sweet - almost no alcohol presence. Finishes sweetly bitter and short. Now can understand why a bourbon barrel brew would not be an imperial.

Disguised as a good stout... Pleasant aroma, mellow flavor that hits the right notes, thin head but nice color... Way, way too thin... And I prefer a less chewy beer.

12 oz bottle with bottled date notched of April 2013.
Solid pssffft upon prying the tap, and the oversized bubbly head both suggest an over-carbonated stout. Given the appearance, the aroma suggests this could be an infected bottle: it smels dank and sour. There is a hint of bourbon and maybe the dank is just from the oak barrel. ... (sips)... Definitely over-carbonated. Well, itís drinkable, barely, at best. ... (a few more sips) ... actually, I think Iíd rather pour this out and have a good beer.
