4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On draught @ The Party Source. Pours a dark copper color, small off white head. Definite nose of bourbon and sugar. Taste is sweet with hints of molasses, brown sugar and peat. Finishes rather smoky and smooth like a well made bourbon. Well done BBC.

Bottle from a homebrew club member. Dark brown with a tan head. Bourbon definitely comes across. Good flavor, not over the top.

28th February 2011
Very hazy brown beer. Ghost of a white head. Light palate. Low carbonation but does have a slightly crispy feel. Surprisingly watery flavours here. Slightly sour woody malt. Trace of vanilla and bourbon. Minerals. Semi dry finish. Curious beer - was expecting much bolder flavours.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750 ml bottle from The Party Source, purchased in mid-late 2011. Pours a cloudy amber-nut-brown color with a medium beige head. When I first pour it, I get a nice bourbon barrel aroma balanced by the peat character from the Scotch ale, and thought BBC had nailed it - warm bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, vanilla, peat, and earth. But after a few minutes, that all seemed to fade and this became considerably weaker and fruitier. Same with the flavor. The first few sips reveal big Scotch peatiness, wood, bourbon, toffee, and toasted brown sugar; the rest becomes overripe fruit with backing oak. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a quick finish. What happened? Did this not do well after several months in the bottle? Is it just 5 minutes of exposure to air that kills it? Either way, this seemed so promising when we opened it and then just vanished.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a reddish/chestnut brown color with about a half inch light tan head. The head doesnít stay around for very long, and thereís a decent amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is pretty nice, it smells like bourbon, vanilla, toffee, and a bit of dark fruit (raisins, figs). Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, except that thereís some peat flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit creamy and smooth with low/moderate carbonation. I think itís a solid overall brew, and definitely worth trying.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured into a snifter.
3.0 A: Clear (I think) deep amber brown color. Just one finger of frothy off-white head that falls quickly and leaves no lacing.
4.5 S: The bourbon is just touch stronger than the base beer. Leathery bourbon with melon and peat notes. Good amounts of oak and vanilla as well. The underlying beer is malty sweet with caramel and toffee being apparent. Dark fruits with focus on sugar plums, figs, and sweetened raisins. Very nice nose on this.
4.0 T: The taste is good, but itís missing the thick, aggressive sweetness that defines the style. In a sentence, the taste is like the nose watered down. Even the bourbon isnít as prominent, but it still offers the flavors listed above. There is much less caramel and toffee than in the nose and the candied fruits take a substantial (those not quite as large) hit.
3.0 M: Here is the worst aspect of the brew and this aspect caused a lower taste score. The lighter medium body is just too damn light for the style and bourbon treatment. The carbonation is fine, but the creaminess is missing. Smooth though.
3.5 D: If this was mashed a bit higher, this would have been a helluva lot better. Still, as it is itís not bad, but the nose indicated that this was a missed opportunity to make something great.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer is a murky dark brownish-amber color with a medium light tan head that lasts awhile. Rings of lacing on the glass. Bourbon aroma with notes of bready malt and fruit behind it. Full-bodied with a boozy character and flavors of peaty malt, hops, caramel and vanilla. The finish is lingering bourbon and earthy malt. Above average overall.
