2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
The aroma reminds me to much of a personal micro brew. The head is slightly whitish brown similar to a nice oatmeal stout. The color is dark brown. The flavor is slightly tart with a malty finish. The palate is poor due to the bitter aftertaste that lingers long after the sip. Overalll, a modestly simple porter,

I really liked the big off-white head but it was downhill from there. The aroma was weak, as was the toasty flavor. Drinkable but not impressive.

Hehe I thought this beer was named after the Dead song Dark Star. Very chocolaty aroma upon first opening which then transitioned to a metallic aroma then back to a very very subtle chocolate/roasted malt aroma. A large fluffy light tan head nearly drowned me. The color is a deep brown with that interesting crimson hue. The flavor is mildly roasty at first and finishes moderately bitter. Relatively rich in body/flavor. An above average porter.

Beautiful color and smell lets you know you are in for a bitter chocolate feast; very little aftertaste. Great porter for the women, gentle yet strong.

Ok you see my username,so please indulge me here people. I am finally rating a beer about a Horse so Here goes.Dark Star Won the 1953 Kentucky Derby, but he was not the big story that year, a horse named Native Dancer was . Called the Grey Ghost, Native Dancer was unbeaten, an awesome example of a Thoroughbred Racehorse. An odds on favorite Native Dancer was boxed in and had no room to run, when finally able to cut loose he exploded ,but he ran out of ground and Dark Star ended up winning the KY Derby by a diminishing head. Native Dancer went on to win the Preakness and Belmont and all his other races. Winning 21 of his 22 starts, only the KY derby kept him from being included with the greats like Secretariat and Man O’ War, speaking of Man O’ War his record is a mirror of Dancer’s he lost only once to a Horse named Upset and that is where the term Upset come from as it relates to sporting events. Native Dancer’s grandson Northern Dancer is respected as the Best Sire of all time,Beer was thin, dark decent chocolate and some malt.

Great lacing. This porter isn’t quite as thick as most, but it has a good flavor - coffee tones with maybe some black pepper?

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. Dark mahogany color with a thin milk chocolate colored head. Aroma was of faint chocolate. Very good roasted coffee bean flavor that was somewhat sharp. I do think it needs to be tweaked a little for a more rounded flavor.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nutty aroma, definitely robust like the label says. Strong
chocolate tone. It is above average, and better than a sharp
stick in the eye (or a Bud), but it not excellent.
