2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Poured into a perfect pint.
2.75 A: Dark brown black color. Two fingers of foamy tan head. Retention is below average and no lacing is left.
3.0 S: Dry with a lot of roastiness that borders on ashy. Some coffee and chocolate notes, but mainly just the standard roastiness.
3.0 T: Like the nose, there’s a lot of roastiness in here, perhaps a bit too much. A bit sweeter than it smells, but still dry overall. Again some chocolate and coffee notes under the roast.
3.0 M: Light to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking creaminess.
2.75 D: It’s not a bad beer, but it’s simple and the flavors it focusses on aren’t the right ones.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sasparilla body, ok head. Nice moderate roasty nose with restrained black patent usage. Berry-tinged flavor, with blueberry a likely culprit, melding admirably well with the roasty notes. An interesting and enjoyable fruity porter.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours barely translucent ruby-sable with a nice light tan head. Toasty malt aroma has a yeasty overtone and a hint of molasses. Flavor is definitely roast malt, with less yeast and more molasses plus a touch of coffee. Mouthfeel has OK body and good fizz. Reach for this star.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Chocolate milk, toasted grains and malt on the nose. Bittersweet on the palate. Cacao notes become more pronounced as it warms up to room temperature. A little on the thin-bodied side. Nice finish bitter finish though.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2014 Tap @ Bluegrass: Chestnut brown & ruby tinted body with a thin beige collar. Toasted & light roasted malts with a faint hint of acrid & heavily roasted coffee beans lingering in the background. A little bit of faint cocoa dust & some metallic earthiness on the palate, too. A touch fizzy & light bodied for a porter.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2/28/14. On tap at the brewpub. One of their least offensive entries. Almost black pour with a decent enough tan head. Milk chocolate and mild coffee aroma, touches of caramel and maltiness. Flavor is just fine as well, chocolate, coffee, caramel. Not bad.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Bluegrass Brewing Co., Louisville. The main page summary is an accurate deScription. A thoroughly acceptable, middle-of-the-road porter. Good with fish and chips (the beer batter here is very good).

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle, notched production date of April 2013, served in a snifter.
Pours clear but very dark btown with a small and weak head.
Aroma: ample notes of milk and medium chocolate with roasted grains.
Flavor: chocolate, leaning more to the dark chocolate side than does the aroma. Malty sweetness is mostly counter-balanced by English hops. Long lasting aftertase features dark roasted grains.
Feel: smooth; medium body
O: Chocolaty, even for style.
