7/03/2009: Bluegrass Heine Brothers Coffee Stout is nead black in color with a tan head. It has a rich, robust coffee and dark chocolate aroma. The flavor is coffee, coffee, coffee. At least it tastes like fairly good coffee. It is roasty with some semi-sweet chocolate thrown in. Actually this beer tastes a lot like freshly ground coffee smells. This finish is a bit weak and I would have liked a little more body to this beer, but other than that, this was a pretty solid beer. I’m typically not impressed by coffee beers, but this one is actually pretty good!
750ml bottle (sample) at Party Town in Florence, Kentucky. Rating #10 for this beer.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pipper (325) - Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2009
Shared 750 thanks to 502flavors. I don’t believe I’ve ever had a sweet stout and obviously need to expand my palate when it comes to stouts in general. Poured a dark black with decent mocha colored head. Seriously toasted coffee bean and floral hops present in both aroma and flavor. Highly drinkable, maybe because it feels a bit thin or watered down but it drinks like a large espresso in the morning but smoother.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 502F (1000) - ARLINGTON, Virginia, USA - JUN 27, 2009
750 shared with Pipper poured into snifter. 2008-2009 release. For a non immperial (or even an imperial) stout, this has a great rich thick appearance - black with a dark khaki head that holds well and leaves some descent lace. Aroma - coffee, coffee, coffee. A bit of oaky vanilla and chocolate in there too. Very nice. Flavor is very similar - great coffee and dark chocolate. Roasty and sweet but not too much. A bit of hops on the finish to balance. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation. Smooth and easy going. Overall: this is underrated, and I am not ust saying that because I am local to BBC. Very quality stout. Very robust and aromatic and flavorful for a non-imperial. Appreciate people!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (6178) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 24, 2009
Thanks to sliffy for sharing a bottle. This beer is a dark brownish-black color with a medium and foamy tan head that dissipates slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Rich roasted coffee and malt aromas. Medium creamy body with flavors of roasted coffee, mild hops and malt. The finish is roasty with a moderately bitter coffee and dark chocolate aftertaste. Decent overall.

Served at BBC St.Matthew’s with a Heine Bros cup insulator - Pours black with a fully receding tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted grain, foamy chocolate and black patent. Tastes of brewed coffee, slightly astringent malt and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation. Enjoyable but not exceptional.
