GABF 2009: Solid, glistening fark brown with a thin halo of froth. Subdued roasted malt nose with chocolate, nuts, and lager yeast making appearances. Thick, syrupy mouth shows flavors of molassis and chocolate. Medium bitteness in the finish with nutty lagery tones underneath the whole experience.

Growler from Party Town. Pours dark brown with crimson highlights and a medium creamy beige head. The aroma is dark chocolate, roasted coffee, moderately sweet with a nice amount of smoke. The flavor is a repeat of the same qualities. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, light fruits, and smoke. This is rich yet smooth. I love it when we get these special barrels close to home.

3/26/2009: BBC Baltic Porter is a great beer. I really like the dark chocolate and roasted barley flavor alont with the obivous smoky and char flavor. The smoke is what really puts this beer over the edge for me. That’s my thing. Great! The slightly fruity, soft lagerish feel of the lager yeast is also present. So is a bit of alcohol in the finish as it warms. This is quite similar to the Rock Bottom Cincinnati Lumpy Dog Porter, but the roast profiles are definitely different between the two beers. The Rock Bottom Porter is more of a roasted barley flavor and the BBC is more of a roasted coffee flavor along with a little more body. This is a solid example of a Baltic Porter. I am going to finish off this growler in no time!
Growler fill from Party Town via alexsdad06 Party Town in Florence, Kentucky. Thanks Brad! Rating #7 for this beer.
