Sephiroth (65), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Mar 26, 2008 750 ml crowned bottle. I bought this with no idea what style it was. I’ve never had a beer like this. I have used a tulip for the first pour, and will use something taller and more narrow for the next. There is plenty of head (always a good thing). This beer is about as orange as can be before I would have to mention red in the color. The smell is of tart raspberries, backed by honey and malt.
The raspberries hit your palate first. They are sweetened by the malt, and what must surely be honey. This beer is fruity sweet, but is totally balanced by the malt. This is odd. Normally I can finish a review before I must refill my glass. Hold on... alright. There must be hops in this, due to the dryness of this sweet beer, but they do not manifest themselves to me. I taste a grainy malt flavor in this second glass. On to the third glass.
What did they say the ABV is on this one? It is not listed on the bottle, and is totally concealed in the flavor, but it really whacked me in the head. Mouthfeel is very effervescent, almost like champaigne, but much thicker. This review took about 45 minutes to write, including a bathroom break and a snack break. I think that just about covers the drinkability.
If I had known what style of beer this was, I probably would not have purchased it. I didn’t bother to read the label, it was simply the last beer I needed to get a discount. I figured it’s in a big bottle from a brewery I’ve heard of and tasted before, and it was the last one, I simply must have it. I can’t wait to find some to share at a family party in place of champaigne.

merlin48 (352), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Apr 22, 2008 Bomber pours a hazy pinkish brown body with no head or lacing. Aroma and taste mostly raspberry puree, honey, alcohol and faint floral hops. One of the most unbeer beers I’ve ever had. More of a braggot than a mead. I recall this being better on draft at the brewpub. clingman71 (172), Centerville, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2008 Draft @ downtown Louisville location. Fantastic raspberry aroma! along with a strong honey aroma. BUT, it is so sickeningly sweet that it is almost undrinkable. Is it an ale or a mead? You can still use some neutral hops to balance the sweetness. What a complete let down. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Dec 13, 2007 Pours with a light carbonation hazy light amber orange with some fruity dull pink hints- a bit dirty. Aroma is fruity- light raspberry jam- raspberry tarts, and some cherry pit astringency and wood with a touch of alcohol. Sweet sugary flavors with some floral hints- flowers, raspberry and cherry with a honey touch. Almond cherry pit astringency with more alcohol. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 08/04/2005
