Aroma of bread, caramel, lemongrass, walnuts. Appearance is ruddy brown with tan head. Flavor matches the nose, with a lemony finish. Palate is very bubbly. A nice Marzen from BBC; one of their better seasonal beers.

I had this on tap at Molly Malone’s in Louisville. I make it a habit not to try to B.S. ratings after the fact. I just remember this was malty and delicious.

Batch 7-69. Pours a hazy dark amber with thin ring of wispy offwhite head. Nose is raisin, vanilla, sweet caramel malt. Flavor very malty with some nuttiness, toffee, biscuit. Medium full velvety body with moderately low carbonation. Pretty decent actually.

On tap at Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot. Really nutty woody character that, for me, was a bit too much leading the beer to be almost syrupy in flavor and generally out of balance. Looked great though. Couldn’t have more that one, maybe two. Won’t purchase this one again with so many other good BBC stuff out there.

Real German Marzen’s are not copper colored but I’m willing to be most Americans think that they are. Why else do almost Marzen’s from the states have the same hue? Other than the color, though, I’m very impressed with the little brewery from Louisville with their attempt. It’s smooth, well balanced, malty but not too sweet and extremely quaffable. Well done, BBC!

12 oz bottle. Batch #7-69. Poured a clear copper color. Head was a light khaki color with decent retention and lacing. Pleasant, but understated aroma of brown sugar, light molasses, and hints of noble hops and caramel. There was mild hop bitterness of about 2-3 out of 10. Tasted of light malty molasses with some nice spicy black pepper at the end.
